A round-up of snacks that will take you back to childhood! These versions taste as good as the originals, but are whole lot healthier and fun.
Food has that special ability to bring back memories, transport us in time, and invoke emotions from our past. Whether it’s smelling your grandma’s freshly baked cookies, reminiscing about the amazing pasta you had in Italy, or recalling the flavor sensation of the tacos you found in that whole in the wall restaurant…food is like a time machine.
Sometimes, I find myself craving things that I used to enjoy as a kid. Classic ‘kid foods‘. Things my mom made for me for afternoon snacks, packed in my lunchbox, or prepared regularly because I dubbed it ‘my favorite’. Just because I’m an adult now doesn’t mean my tastes have changed all that much and I still love munching on things from my past! Not only do they taste great, but they remind me of a simpler, more carefree time. And we could all use a little vacation back to a place of calmness, freedom, and fun!
Today I have a fun twist on a traditional ‘kid snack’ to share with you all, plus a round-up of some of the best ‘kid snacks’ that adults can enjoy too! Think of this as the more sophisticated version of Ants on a Log…I call it, Lady Bugs on a Log.
- 3 stalks celery
- 3 tbsp humus of choice
- grape tomatoes, halved
- Spread humus on the celery stalks. Slice grape tomatoes in half. Top stalks with tomatoes. Slice into pieces.
And now for those other timeless snacks!
Talk about nostalgia! I love all the flavors and textures of these snacks and they really do take me back to childhood afternoon snacks, packed lunches, and small treats after dinner. And hey, sometimes it’s fun to eat like a kid!
