RIP Summer

Gone much to soon.

Where have the last few days gone? One moment I am touring NYC, relaxing on the patio, and enjoying the nice summer breeze, and the next I am rushing to finish summer reading (my fault :)), gathering school supplies, and racing off to my first day as a junior in highschool. It seems like only a short time ago I wrote this post…..and now we’re back in school…ALREADY.

My first day went pretty well though. My whole school, 5th through 12th grade, is finally back at our building after being away for 2 years for renovations. The renovated school is absolutely beautiful, totally updated, and better than ever before! It was exciting to see all the new classrooms and all my new and old teachers. My schedule is pretty good….but I only have lunch every other day because of my Chinese class and my college courses. Hopefully some of the teachers will understand and let me eat during their class. Girls gotta eat, right?

Here’s what I wore for the first day:

I had one of my favorite breakfasts to start the new school year, served in my new wooden bowl from Whole Foods.

A perfect way to start the new year.

I packed a yummy lunch too, to get me out of the end of summer blues.

Turkey topped salad, passion fruit coconut water, yogurt with granola, baked eggplant (heated up and kept hot in my soup thermos), an apple, and some homemade dressing! Totally delicious.

My stomach started to rumble on my way home from school so I knew it was time to feed the beast again. :)

I thought this was the perfect opportunity to test out two new products I was sent over the weekend.

Manna Bread sent me a plethora of breads from their product line! I couldn’t belive how generous they were with the samples, they sent over 9 varieties. I am rolling in dough…literally. :)

I had seen Manna bread in stores before but never really knew what it was all about. So, what is Manna Bread?

From their website: ” It is a cake-like, sprouted bread, yeast free bread, organic bread, free of salt, no oils, no sweeteners, no leavening agents. Manna is a moist and delicious, high in protein and fiber.”

Everything said above….is completely true. I have tried a few of the varieties so far and am blown away.

Today I sampled the Carrot Raisin and Millet Rice breads for a snack.

I cut off a little hunk of each, toasted em’ up, and what resulted was a doughy, flavorful piece of bread.

The Millet Rice surprised me so much in how nutty and sweet it was. With no added sugars the sweetness from the brown rice really showed through and made for a great piece of toast. The Carrot Raisin on the other hand tasted like a piece of carrot bread with the consistency of a doughy piece of carrot cake. There were a few too many raisins for my taste…..but the flavor they added were definitely welcome.

I can’t wait to try the other flavors….cinnamon date, banana walnut hemp, whole rye…..so many great ones! Thanks Manna Bread for making such awesome products!

Along side my new bread fav. I tried some of Musselmans new applesauce products.

I reviewed for them in the past and was so happy when they asked me to try out their new flavors. The new Totally Fruit line is sweetened with only fruit juice making them nutritionally sound and full of good natural sugar.

The mixed berry flavor was excellent, very apple-y with a subtle berry taste and who doesn’t love purple food? I liked how the Healthy Picks granny smith applesauce had the slight tartness of those apples with just the right amount of sweetness. I think these little applesauce cups would be great frozen for an icee treat<- won’t be needing to many of those with fall fast approaching. ;)

I’m trying to catch up on some Person’s Unknown episodes I missed when I was in NY. It’s gettin’ really good!!!

For anyone that has started school or had their first day today….I hope you had a wonderful start to the year and go into to school being the best possible version of YOU.
