Turn that Frown Upside Down

How many times have we heard that phrase all throughout our childhood’s? From teachers, parents, creepy adults who are a bit over enthusiastic? But ya know what…they were onto something when they repeated that phrase.

I can’t tell you how many people I see on a daily basis walking around like this…

or this…

I mean come on people! Life isn’t that bad! There is always SOMETHING you can find in your day that’s a positive. And plus, holding my face like that for long periods of time would be hard…talk about exercising your face muscles Winking smile

I mean I know no one can be happy all the time…but just projecting a little positivity through a simple expression can make your or someone else’s day!

So where am I going with this? Well, one of my favorite little things to do when I am about and about is to see how many people I can get to change the scowl on their faces into a smile. Personally, smiling always makes me feel better. Even if I’m not in that great of mood, if I have a smile on my face the situation seems a bit brighter. And hey, I am not alone on that one…there has even been studies done on the benefits of smiling!

Of course some people just look at me like I’m crazy (isn’t it sad that we live in a world where appearing happy or content invokes dirty looks from people?!), but for the few that soften their faces and smile back, I get a little release of endorphins and a good feeling inside.

The reason I bring this up is because I went to a local art festival today and since I was by myself I spent most of my time just people watching and playing this little game! It actually made for quite an enjoyable afternoon!

Some people are just plain grumpy! At work, if a grumpy customer comes in, I try to cheer them up. Sometimes they’ll smile, and sometimes they won’t even crack a smile.

What an incredible post, Kaila!!!! It reminds me of this song that my Sunbeams adore: “If you chance to meet a frown, do not let it stay. Quickly turn it upside-down and smile that frown away. No one likes a frowny face; change it to a smile. Makes the world a better place by smiling all the while.” We were having SO much fun singing it this last Sunday. They were smiling all over the place.
