[The Better] Chips and Dip

Chips and dip…the quintessential Summer combo.

No I’m not talking about chips and salsa, chips and french onion, or chips and spinach dip. The dip that has my heart (and makes Summer…well, SUMMER!) is GUAC.

Guacamole.

Simplistic. Creamy. Fresh. And let’s not forget…DELICIOUS.

Luckily for me, my mom introduced avocado’s to me when I was really little…so I’ve been a fan for many years now. But I know for some people, the odd looking green-fleshed fruit can be a little intimidating. That’s where guac comes in.

No one…and I mean NO ONE, can resist the deliciousness of freshly made guac and crispy, crunchy tortilla chips.

Last week, I received a package from the people at The Better Chip. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect because I had a craving for my mom’s famous dip and these chips seemed like the perfect vehicle for digging in.

The Better Chip chips are gluten free, whole grain, and made with real veggies! They use high quality oils in their cooking processes and strive to bring only the best of the best tortilla products to market. And just look at these flavors:

Sweet Onion and White Cheddar

009

Jalapeno and Sea Salt

011

Red Pepper and Salsa Fresca

010

Fresh Corn and Sea Salt

012

Each flavor was seasoned perfectly…not overly salty and I liked that the chips were small and round rather than triangular (those ones always break apart so easily!).

You could really taste the ingredients in each one and the tastes stayed true to their names. I can also certify that every flavor tasted amazing with my mom’s homemade guac!

Oh, what’s that? You’d like some homemade guac? Well, I can’t say it would hold up to well in shipping, but I can give you the recipe!

Kara’s Rockin’ Guac

-makes about 2 cups-

  • 3 ripe avocados, cut in half pits removed
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 2 tbsp cilantro, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp hot pepper sauce

In a small bowl, mash avocado flesh. Stir in red onion, lime juice, cilantro, pepper sauce, and salt. Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the dip (to keep from browning) and refrigerate until ready to serve (at least one hour).

Thanks Better Chip for letting me test out your products! They were perfect for a nice Summery snack!

I’m going to have to agree with you about the guac – it’s amazing! I have a bit of a guacamole addiction, but no problem I enjoy every delicious scoop of it! I bet it would be awesome with those jalapeno chips… :-D
