So I actually volunteer at a place called Vive La Casa right here in Buffalo. It is a place for refugees to come when they have escaped from dangerous countries and are seeking new life in America/Canada. It is very small and not very well funded (most people have never even heard of it!). But these people are so wonderful and are truly fighting for a life they deserve. They wait for months (even years sometimes) at Vive until they can gain citizenship, usually in Canada. But while they wait, there isn’t much to do! So that’s where my family and I come in. We have made some friends there, and I help to look after the kids. Believe it or not, there are some 12-14 year olds traveling all on their own :( We had them over for Thanksgiving as well as Christmas, and visit at Vive to just hang out and show that we care. It must be so lonely for them! Imagine having to leave your entire family behind and be alone in a strange country.

Even if I don’t get your giveaway (though it looks awesome haha), I’d love to spread the word about Vive La Casa! It is in a dangerous neighborhood, so it’s not exactly the best place to just visit on a whim. But they can always use clothes and food and even toys for the very young children.

My healthy help for the week was volunteering a nutrition practice. I analyze food records so that the dietitian can give her clients feedback on how to improve their diets and get healthier. :)

Today I took the time to have a conversation with one of the ladies working in one of the places to eat on campus! Totally made my day and hopefully was a bright spot in hers.

And now some #healthyhelp from around the world:

Stray Rescue Reshapes a City’s Approach to Harsh Animal Control

Eric Schwarz and Citizen Schools Give Inner-City Kids a Leg-up

FBI Awards Nuns for Work Against Human Trafficking

Students Make Prom Affordable for Needy Teens

And now for the announcement of the giveaway winner

To make it fair I assigned each person who submitted a #healthyhelp a number and then entered the numbers into a random number generator. And the lucky winner is….

JENNA!

Congratulations! I know you’ll really enjoy the prizes and I LOVE the great work you are doing with local refugees!

Send me your address and contact info and I will get the package out to you ASAP! Keep up the amazing things you’re doing!

I hope everyone has a great weekend. And remember, the littlest gesture of kindness can make a big impact on someones life.

Keep Lending a {Healthy} Hand wherever you can!

Todays’s Healthy Help: Paid for the prizes for my giveaway out of my own pocket! But frankly I love doing this! It’s like giving someone a gift…and in this case its for a great cause: encouraging others to do #healthyhelp.

That is awesome and congrats to the winner! This is a great post girl. That is great about allowing the lady to go first. I’ve been double booked with others and it’s certainly not the best situation.
