Run, Rehydrate, Refuel!

IMG_0975

Hello from the great arctic tundra! :)

Yes we got a lot of snow…but nowhere near as bad as the 40 inches that some places in New England got! But still, if I never saw snow again in my life, well that’d just be okay. Not a fan.

To get everyone out of the bad weather blues however, I have a sweaty treadmill workout to get ya heated up, a custom energy bar review to refuel ya, and a some herbal water that not only tastes amazing, but makes getting fluids in really easy!

First up…the run!

I made this up to incorporate on cardio days for BBBC. I like how it incorporates moderate speeds that are constantly increasing for a good challenge!

I cover about 7.55 miles in an hour with this workout! So it’s great for recovery from the usual speed intervals I use the treadmill for. Let me know if you try it out!

I mentioned these waters on instagram last week! I am usually not a fan of flavored/infused waters because they always taste a little funny to me. But Herbal water’s got it right.

The founder of the company, Dr. Ayala, sent me a package of their herbal waters as well as their herbal sparkling waters.

I don’t drink nearly as much water as I need to in a day, but if I had access to these all the time, I would have no problem getting in my daily fluids. The flavors aren’t overbearing, but you just get a slight hint and scent of whatever flavor infusions are in it as you drink. In fact, I noticed that the flavor gets a little more pronounced as you drink! I loved how upon opening the bottles you could smell exactly what was in the water. The cloves cardamom and cinnamon drink smelled exactly like opening a jar of apple pie spice. And the lemon verbena geranium tasted fresh and zesty, like water with a the perfect amount of freshly squeezed lemon. Those two varieties were my favorite out of all the flavors! I think it would be cool to try making tea with these waters…I’m sure it would make it extra flavorful!

The sparkling waters were incredible as well! I just discovered last year that I like sparkling water and after trying these with the addition of flavor…I can pretty much say I’m addicted! Now if only I could afford to buy it all the time ;)

All the waters have the same nutritional profile as water and are simply infused with the essence different herbs and spices…no added sugar, unnatural ingredients, or artificial additives! Love it.

Thanks Dr. Ayala!

To complement my rehydration after a tough workout….

YouBar sent me a sampling of their energy bars!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA The concept behind YouBar is that you can create a custom bar to meet your personal nutritional needs! They have a wide variety of ingredients to choose from….including different bases (like chewy, crunchy, date based, fruit and nut), protein powders, sweeteners, fruit and nuts add-ins, dietary supplements, and spices/sweet mix-ins!

YouBar sent me 5 of their most popular flavors that people have kept making because they are such great combinations.

So you can go on the website and order bars that have already been tested and guaranteed to be delicious or you can make your own! And what’s cool about making your own is that the site will guide you as you go to make sure you are choosing combinations that work well together! Helpful right?

I loved the uniqueness of all these bars. They were all a bit bigger than a larabar and dense, soft textures. My favorite was the Great Date with Chocolate…it tasted like a decadent chocolate bar but was only made with fruit and nuts and a HUGE amount of protein from whey! Loved that!

Another attribute I enjoyed was that you can really see the ingredients that go into each bar…some nuts and fruit are whole as opposed to being all chopped up and unrecognizable.

Great job YouBar! Your company has a fantastic concept!

And just to prove how much I loved their bars, I already ordered a custom box for myself…modeled after the Great Date with Chocolate bar!

The bars are a bit expensive…but for a once in a while treat I think their worth it! And to help out with the expense….YouBar has created a coupon code for all of my readers to use.

Hey, fantastic! Thanks for posting a pyramid TM workout – I still use the interval one you posted and the minute at 10mph at the end STILL kills me ;)

Good to know you haven’t been buried under the snow – it looks really scary in some parts of the US!
