Bonus life points to anyone who got that reference!

I can already tell this post is going to be all over the place given that it’s started with Shrek quotes…. I’ll get to why those are relevant later.

That’s what weekend posts are for though! Or at least, that’s what they’re for today. Think of this as one of those “What I’m Loving” posts except with a lot less cohesiveness and a lot MORE randomness.

-First a little recap of my birthday

It was veeeeery low key. These last few weeks of the semester are filled with work so I knew there wouldn’t be much time for a big celebration. But spending time with my family was wonderful and the best type of party I could ask for!

IMG_2696[even google knew it was my birthday]

cards[the sweetest cards and flowers from my family]gifts[such thoughtful presents as well: iPhone 5, a massage, and some running gear from my parents>an arrow necklace and tickets to see ONCE when it comes to Buffalo from my sis>a target gift card from my soon-to-be brother in law]

And now onto those waffles I mentioned….

Frozen Guru sent me 3 boxes of their FLOUR FREE, NATURALLY SWEETENED waffles to try! Although I don’t eat waffles to often, I do like them and especially enjoy the convenience of the kind you can just pop in the toaster! Here are some other awesome qualities about Frozen Guru waffles:

Frozen Guru waffles are free of:

  • Flour
  • Gluten
  • Lactose
  • Eggs
  • Yeast
  • Oil
  • Preservatives
  • Fillers (no rising agents)
  • Dairy (Our newest variety is our Certified Vegan Blueberry Chia waffle)

The waffles come in 3 varieties and all have a very subtle sweet taste to them. Not over powering, but just enough flavor to not require any syrup or anything! I only wish they were a bit bigger! But the 8-9 grams of protein (from NGO-tofu) they contain in each serving definitely makes up for their small size….protein power for satiety! I loved how well they toasted up too! They got nice and crispy….just how I like ‘em! Here’s what I thought of each of the flavors:

Coconut Chia: These tasted like vanilla to me for some reason! The coconut taste was definitely there but not as strong as I would have liked! Slightly tropical and slightly sweet. Definitely a perfect base for all sorts of creative toppings! The chia seeds provided a nice texture as well!

Sweet Banana: Very strong banana flavor! These paired wonderfully with peanut butter. I like that these tasted like an actual banana as opposed to that artificial banana flavor that some banana flavored products can have. Nothing fake here! Just real banana puree that reminded me of banana bread.

Blueberry Chia: MY FAVORITE! I loved the whole blueberries in this one! The blueberries tasted very fresh and these were very reminiscent of my favorite Fiber Love bar, Blueberry Cobbler! I thought these had a nice cinnamon taste to them as well!

Overall a great line of products and definitely like nothing I’ve seen on the market before! These are probably the healthiest, most REAL toasted waffles I’ve ever eaten. Thanks Frozen Guru!

Staying on the waffle theme…

I FOUND A WAFFLE MAKER! Can you believe I didn’t know we had one of these! I am always so jealous of all the waffle recipes I see around the web, and now I can attempt to make them for myself! As soon as I run out of the Frozen Guru waffles you know I’ll be tackling some homemade waffle creations. Woohoo!

Some other things of to note (well at least, they’re notable to me :) )…

-Check out these cool iPhone cover sleeves I found when I was cleaning out a kitchen drawer! There for protecting your screen while you’re cooking! Pretty ingenious right?

-My mom is NUTTZO. I think she’s the only person in the whole world that would willingly leave peanut butter on her plate. You gotta lick that sh*t up! No wastin’ the good stuff in my house! :)

IMG_2669-Seasonal products make me so happy…

And these make me doubly happy because they lived up to the hype I created for them in my mind. You all know I love chocolate and mint as it is, but in OREO form?! Sign me up. Take my advice, buy these now.

-My neighbors are so sweet! After letting them borrow a roasting pan this past week, they returned the pan filled with goodies from their CSA box! Red onions, green cabbage, and two mini Hubbard squashes!! <—Which I’ve never had before so obviously I was excited!
IMG_2676When I cut into one of the squashes I was surprised at how much it resembled a kabocha! Needless to say, I was pretty excited!

Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. Sort of bland and tasteless. Definitely no match for the sweet, amazingness of my beloved kabocha!

-The frost is officially here. It’s this time of the year that makes me so thankful I have a remote car starter. Brrrrrr. I’m definitely the type of person that would rather be sweating 24/7 in 100 degree weather than FREEZING COLD. The cold is painful! IMG_2698

-The podcasts I listen to while running give me the best inspiration…for posts, for tweets, for mantras….for EVERYTHING! The latest phrase that I’m loving: “Don’t yuck my yum.” <—Basically everyone has different tastes, opinions, and beliefs! Be open-minded, be tolerant, and embrace other people’s perspectives! I need to put that on a shirt! :)

-Confession: I’ve been stock piling tweets of the week…thus I have LOTS O’ LOLZ to share today!

Haha I had to read this after seeing the Shrek quote! I have supreme waffle envy – basically, I need a waffle iron for Christmas. So I have to settle for pancakes (but who’s complaining?) And ALWAYS hot ;)
