A roundup of 6 awesome podcasts outside the realm of health and fitness! For when you feel like listening to something that DOESN’T have a focus on healthy living and wellness. Sometimes, we could all use a break!
I get asked a lot what my favorite podcast is. Well, to be honest, it changes all the time. I feel like depending on what’s going on in my life currently my favorite podcast changes. Right now, anything exercise, fitness, or healthy living related is too tough to listen to given my injury.
I hate to be a negative person or a Debbie-downer, but I need to be kind to myself when it comes to my mental state during this hard time. Don’t get me wrong, I still LOVE the health-focused podcasts I subscribe to! But since so many of them were ones I used to listen to on runs, they make me sad to listen to right now. Luckily, there are TONS of AWESOME podcasts out there that have NOTHING to do with health or fitness.
Today, I’m sharing 6 of my current favorite podcasts that I think you should be listening to if you want to escape the world of healthy living for a little bit. It’s easy to become very wrapped up in wellness, so sometimes it’s nice to take a step back and distract yourself with other forms of content and media.
Hopefully you find some fun new listens in this list!!
I know Richard Simmons is known for being a fitness icon, but that’s not what this podcast is about. This podcast chronicles the search of one filmmaker, who used to be a regular at Simmons’ workout class, to FIND RICHARD SIMMONS. Simmons disappeared on February 15th, 2014. He cut off his friends, family members, and completely stepped out of the public eye. Nobody heard from him or knew why he left. This podcast is an attempt to find out what happened to him, why he left, and if he’s okay. Truly fascinating!
If you’re a fan of Serial and This American Life, you will LOVE S-Town. The premise is that a man from a small Alabama town emails a reporter from This American Life asking him to investigate a murder that has allegedly occurred there. The man HATES his town and has strong opinions on what takes place their, as well as most things in the world. What unfolds as the man and the reporter connect is not what you’d expect at all. The story that unfolds is one of a complicated individual that has a lot more to him than meets the eye. There’s love, loss, a hunt for hidden treasure, and a nasty feud among family members. Lots of twists and turns in this compelling serialized story.
PCHH as it’s known by regular listeners is exactly what it sounds like: an hour-long conversation on what’s happening in Pop Culture right now. From the latest movie releases and new tv shows to anything noteworthy that’s been happening in our society. They cover everything and engage in really fun conversations about Pop Culture happenings around the world! My favorite part? They end each pod with a segment called What’s Making Me Happy This Week, in which they share one (or a few) thing that is each panelist happy that past week.
From the writers of the book, Freakonomics, comes this amazing podcast about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. There is literally no other way to describe it! Anything you might want to know…the who, what, where, when, and how of the most random occurrences, events, and subjects on Earth are covered! You learn something new EVERY episode.
If you’re true crime or mystery lover, this one is for you! Criminal is a unique podcast that looks at crime from a sociological, historical, and anthropological perspective. The creators believe that crime is a function of people, time, and place. There are few podcasts as interesting, insightful, and engaging. Every episode leaves you hanging on the narrators every word…especially since every story is TRUE.
