Whether you’re an adult or a kid, you’ve no doubt packed a turkey sandwich at least once in your lifetime.
Unfortunately, turkey sandwiches have gone the way of many classic foods….they’ve gotten boring. People just haphazardly throw on pieces of slimy deli meat, add some mustard, maybe a lettuce leaf, a slice of flavorless cheese, and call it good.
Well, I am here to change that! It’s time to TAKE BACK THE TURKEY SANDWICH!
Turkey is one of my all time favorite protein sources. Not only do I love it on Thanksgiving, but I buy it weekly to use in salads, egg scrambles, and sandwiches. It’s a good source of protein, tasty, and very satisfying!
Recently, I have been buying Oscar Mayer Selects Natural Slow Roasted Turkey! It’s full of flavor, lean protein, and has no artificial ingredients. I love that it is minimally processed in comparison to other deli meats and has no artificial preservatives, flavors, or colors. It’s also gluten-free and has no meat by-products. Quality meat for an affordable price! This college girl’s budget is all about cheap, wholesome food products.
Speaking of cheap…you know what’s not? Food at the place I work…Panera Bread. As much as I love everything there, it’s not for someone trying be frugal. If it weren’t for my discount, I don’t think I’d ever eat there! But where does that leave the rest of the Panera-loving population? Paying 10 dollars for a sandwich…that’s where.
Not anymore. Today I am giving you some of my favorite, unique turkey sandwich combos AND sharing a recipe for Copycat Panera Bread Sierra Turkey Sandwich, the most popular and my favorite sandwich on the menu!
Healthy Helper Blog…the healthy, homemade alternative to your favorite Panera sandwich! [healthy, whole foods, clean eating, sandwich, lunch, dinner, meal, easy recipe, healthy recipe, high protein, healthy food]” width=”511″ height=”764″>
- 4 pieces of your favorite whole grain bread, lightly toasted
- 6 slices of Oscar Mayer Selects Natural Roasted Turkey
- 2 tbsp chipotle mayo (recipe below)
- ¼ cup asiago cheese spread
- ¼ cup red onion slices
- 1 cup fresh arugula
- Chipotle Mayo:
- ¼ cup Veganaise
- juice from a can of chipotle in adobo sauce (discard peppers)
- Lay out 4 slices of toasted bread. Spread 1 tbsp of chipotle spread on two of the slices. Top each slice with ½ cup arugula and tbsp sliced red onion. Top the other two slices of plain bread with 2 tbsp asiago cheese spread and 3 slices of Oscar Mayer Selects Natural Roasted Turkey. Press together the two topped slices of bread for each sandwich, slice, and serve!
- To make Chiptole Mayo:
- Measure out ¼ cup Veganaise spread into a small bowl. Drain the juice of a can of chipotle in adobo sauce into the same bowl. Stir to combine.
This sandwich is epic. Instead of the Asiago bread used at the cafe’s I’ve swapped in whole wheat bread for more whole grains and fiber, added a light Asiago cheese spread, and made my own chipotle mayo! With the addition of fresh arugula and sweet red onions, you have a sandwich made for kings (or queens) on a pauper’s budget. 😉
To be honest though, the Oscar Mayer’s Selects Natural Slow Roasted Turkey is what really makes it. It’s so fresh, delicious, and has the texture of fresh roasted Thanksgiving turkey. The thin slices are perfect for layering and you get a bunch per package! I’ve been enjoying it with all sorts of fun topping and ingredient combinations. Speaking of which….

green apple slices + white cheddar + walnut-mayo + arugula
avocado + red pepper humus + swiss cheese + spring mix
wasabi mayo + dill cheese + spinach
goat cheese + cranberry mayo + pear slices
provolone cheese + pesto + roasted veggies
grilled peach slices + sweet red onion + honey mustard
feta + humus + roasted red peppers + cucumber
