Believe it or not, before going to Europe last year, I wasn’t much of a wine person. It’s always been my parents drink of choice, but even when I turned 21, it never was appealing to me.
When I went wine tasting in the south of France and Italy, however, my whole perspective changed. I finally had a chance to taste REALLY GOOD, high quality wine…and a lot of it. I was able to figure out what kinds I liked and didn’t like which gave me a much better understanding of why I had never found a favorite here at home.
My dad always told me, you should always have a bottle of wine at your apartment to offer people. You never know who could pop in and you want to be able to be hospitable! While I wouldn’t consider myself a wine connoisseur, I do believe I know what I like and I know how to pick out wines that are crowd pleasers. So when I went to pick out a bottle to keep in my apartment, I went with an old favorite (or really a new favorite since I am new to the whole wine drinking biz!)….Frontera Sauvignon Blanc.
Light, fresh, and so crisp tasting! Reds are too bold for me, where is this wine is fruity and has nice citrusy notes to it. I love how refreshing it is too. Not dry in the slightest! Another thing I love about it, it pairs well with one of my all time foods….pesto!
Now what does pesto and wine have to do with anything?! Well, I’ll tell ya!
With the Superbowl last week and lots of other big sporting events in the coming months, I thought it’d be a good idea to get ready to do some entertaining! Now that I’m more at home in my new place (and have wine on hand! 😉 ), I want to start hosting friends and family. No better time to get together than for a fun sporting event, ya know? So with my signature wine picked out, I needed a go-to appetizer to pair with it. That’s when I did a little research about what goes well with Sauvignon Blanc. Pesto was the FIRST thing that popped up….perfect!
- 1 cup vegan cream cheese (I used Kite Hill Original)
- 1 cup vegan pesto sauce
- ½ cup roasted red peppers, chopped
- Mix pesto and cream cheese together. Place in a serving bowl and top with roasted red peppers. Serve with crudité, crackers, and, of course, FRONTERA wine!
This dip is FANTASTIC. Only 3 ingredients…so it couldn’t get any easier. It’s also vegan, gluten-free, and perfect for pairing with your dipper of choice. I personally love dipping pretzel sticks in it or raw veggies. So yummy. And it goes lovely with the Fronterra wine!
The dip AND the wine are sure to be crowdpleasers at your next big game night event! But seriously, with Frontera wine every moment is tasty. 🙂
