June does not only mark the official start of summer (in my opinion, at least!), but also it’s the start of National Dairy Month! A whole month dedicated to delicious dairy-filled foods and recipes. I can get on board with this because dairy is a daily part of my diet and a great source of protein for me! It also provides calcium, vitamin D, and potassium. Plus it comes in so many forms, making it incredibly versatile for cooking and baking with.
I know a lot of people are sensitive to dairy or have lactose intolerance, but fortunately I’ve been blessed with a stomach of steel. 😉 Mac and cheese is my pre-race meal of choice, I eat MULTIPLE servings of greek yogurt a day, and cottage cheese is a staple too. Sure I use non-dairy milks because I prefer their taste and like dabbling with vegan cheeses every now and then, but personally I can’t see excluding dairy from my diet anytime soon.
With that said, I always try to choose organic and go for brands that treat their animals humanely. It’s important to be an informed consumer, ya know?
