Thoughts on the world of detoxes, cleanses, and ‘diet resets’. Do they work? Are they for you? A thorough discussion of my personal experience embarking on a nutritional cleanse.
In an age of Skinny Tea, stomach wraps for weight loss, and the Mega Cleanse, it’s no wonder people are confused about what’s healthy and what’s not when it comes to diet and nutrition.
Regardless of if you’re wanting to lose weight or not, there are so many products, programs, and methods being thrown at you that it’s hard not to get caught up in all the diet fad hubbub. Even I, who prides herself on staying AWAY from diet trends/fads, have found myself getting distracted by all the ads, social media posts, and commercials that feature the latest way to slim down, tone up, or “get back on track.” As hard and embarrassing as that is to admit… 🙁
It got me thinking…are all cleanses, detoxes, and diet resets created equal? Are they really ALL bad and completely worthless?
Normally, I’d say YES. 100% yet. Restrictive diets don’t work for long-term health and wellness. They just don’t. They slow your metabolism, will lead to future weight gain, and really just MESS WITH YOUR MIND overall.
But that’s before I discovered Splendid Spoon.
Have you heard of them? I hadn’t until I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts (Let it Out with Katie Dalebout).
Basically, they are a meal delivery service that specializes in incredible plant-based soups….drinkable ones, spoonable ones, sweet ones, and savory, too! They KNOW their soup.
I was curious to learn more about their program since it’s food based on not just some juice or weird drink concoction. And from what I heard on the podcast, the founder is incredibly passionate about getting people to go back to basics with their diet and focus on REAL WHOLE FOODS (part of my goals I listed here).
I was sold…or rather intrigued! And since it’s soup season anyways…I decided I would try their flagship meal plan called the Program 2.0. It includes 5 soups for Breakfast, Lunch and soups for one day of a total Soup Cleanse. It’s designed to make you more conscious of what you eat (which I have been FAILING at lately), as well as improve satiety & nutrition.
You might be thinking, what about dinner? Well, that’s another thing I love about Splendid Spoon! Dinner is totally up to you. No need to eat soup or just a juice…you get to mindfully choose a nourishing meal that compliments the foods from the program. So awesome!
When my package arrived in the mail, I was pumped to take a look at everything and see what was on the ‘menu’ this week. Here are a few faves out of the bunch…
Blueberry Acai Smoothie-Very cinnamon-y with subtle hints of coconut…very hydrating given the coconut water base
Roobios Chia Smoothie-Loved the added chia seeds for texture in this one! Who DOESN’T love chai flavored things this time of year!?
Ikarian Stew-My favorite out of the soups! The pairing of tomato sauce and italian spices was spot on.
Beans & Greens-Tasted just like the classic dish! The bok choy was amazing.
Fennel Consomme-Are any of you fennel lovers like me?! This had a STRONG fennel flavor and I could not drink it fast enough. So warming
Root Vegetable Stew-Tis’ the season for root veggies…so this was an obvious fave! The use of rosemary, onion, and garlic made this incredible tasting.
Even though it all came frozen, everything reheated (or thawed in some cases) perfectly and there was no loss of taste or texture. Each bowl was warming…each smoothie was energizing. I could go on and on about each one.
So full of nutrients, healthy fats, complex carbs, and plant-based proteins! So so tasty too.
Like I said, I really enjoyed this! I felt revived and fresh at the end of the week. It also helped me kick a nasty sweet tooth I’ve been having for weeks on end. It’s amazing what sticking to REAL WHOLE FOODS can do for your mind and body, right?
So I guess you could say I am not TOTALLY anti-cleanse. I don’t think the word should be demonized. One just has to do the proper research behind the program to find out whether it’s realistic and will lead to sustainable results. Splendid Spoon fits that bill!
Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions about my experience with Splendid Spoon!
