Happy Friday, friends! We made it through!
It’s strange because as I said earlier, this week seemed to go by really slow, yet I can’t believe we are already half way done with November. Time is so relative! Also, less than a week until my 21st birthday! So that’s pretty exciting. I really don’t have much planned since I am in the middle of the busiest part of the semester, but I am hoping to at least go out to a nice celebration dinner with my family and friends. The partying will come once I get over this big work/school hump! 😉 (read: DECEMBER)
As you can tell from the title, it’s time for another FOODS OF THE MOMENT post! This week I am sharing some sweet & savory foods I’ve been able to try recently and I think you all will be really excited about them.
Before we get into the new food, a little housekeeping…

Okay, on to this week’s FOODS OF THE MOMENT…
Organic Living Superfoods carries all sorts of unique products. Sure they have the traditional healthy snacks like raw nuts, seeds, and dried fruits…but they also create tons of flavored sprouted nuts, energy squares, granolas, dark chocolate, smoothie blends, trail mixes, and more! A a nut lovers dream in my opinion. I was sent a lovely sampling of some of their popular items.
I received Sweet Salty & Spicy Pumpkin Seeds, Turmeric Cayenne & Ginger Cashews, Cinnamon Pecans, Pumpkin Cinnamon Pecans, and Banana Walnutz! All sprouted, all raw, all organic. They are also vegan and gluten-free! I was impressed by the flavor combinations themselves…but then I tried them! Talk about FLAVOR. I love love loved the sweet varieties. They tasted so fresh and sweet…like freshly made candied nuts out the oven or the roaster! The thing is they are only sweetened with dates and flavored with spices and extracts. It just goes to show that simple foods really do taste best! The more savory varieties were splendid as well. I have been trying to eat more turmeric but I am not a big fan of the taste. However, when paired with ginger and cayenne on the cashews, it was so tasty!
I opted for dried blueberries and jack fruit for my fruit samples…1) because I can never find fruit-sweetened dried blueberries and 2) because I have been wanting to try jackfruit FOREVER. It’s definitely one of those ‘foods of the moment’ in the health food world right now, so I definitely want to see what all the rage was about. It’s super sweet and tastes like a tropical combo of pineapple and banana. Now I know why everyone loves it! I wish I could find it fresh so that I could do some cooking with it. 🙂
Just like the nuts and seeds, there granolas are raw, organic, and sprouted! They’re only sweetened with fruit and dates as well. I got a Strawberry flavor and a Mango & Goji flavor. Both amazingly fruity and SO CRUNCHY….just how I like my cereals and granolas! I love buckwheat and the addition of dried fruits and nuts make these the ultimate snack in terms of texture and taste.

You all know my love of cooking with cauliflower! From cookies to crusts, it is such a versatile ingredient. It’s becoming so mainstream in fact, that companies are actually starting to create products using it. Outer Aisle Gourmet has developed a line of sandwich thins and pizza crusts that are simply made using cauliflower and other whole food ingredients like: cottage cheese, whole eggs, and parmesan cheese.
I have to admit, all that dairy and cheese in one product made me a little anxious, but I was excited to challenge myself with these innovative products. I am glad I did! To tell you the truth, I haven’t actually made a sandwich using the thins because I have been enjoying them so much right on their own. I toast them in the toaster and they get nice, hot, and crispy! They taste like creamy, cheesy mozzarella sticks in my opinion. You can hardly detect any cauliflower flavor at all. I also love how sturdy they are. Sometimes cauliflower based foods fall apart, but these are definitely strong enough to support any fillings/toppings you choose.
The pizza crusts are great too! A little small for my pizza loving self, so I’ve been using them more for snacks. but perfect for anyone who hasn’t had luck making your own cauliflower crust at home. (PS: Make sure to check out my No-Fail Cauliflower Crust Pizza!) They crisp up nice in the oven or under the broiler (just make sure you keep an eye on them!) and taste just like the thins.
I think it’s pretty cool that food trends that started online or in the blog world are now making their way onto the market. Did you know that Trader Joes even has cauli-rice now? Crazy! As if I couldn’t love Eat Me Guilt Free more, they go ahead and surprise me with a package of their limited edition, seasonal flavors! I already am obsessed with their original brownies and blondies, but they’ve truly stepped up their game. The Pumpkin Spice tastes like FALL. So sweet and cinnamon-y, while the chocolate flavors are rich and decadent! The mint flavor is not overpowering and the addition of chocolate chips add double chocolate deliciousness. All of them also have that dense, cakey texture I’ve come to expect from the EMGF line. Gosh, I wish I could recreate these at home! (Anyone want to take on the challenge for me? 😉 )
If you haven’t tried Eat Me Guilt Free yet, get on it! You can even use code healthyhelper at checkout to receive 10% off your purchase! (I don’t get anything from you using that code, BTW!)
Next on my list to try? Their Snow Kissed Blondie flavor. OMG.
