I’m really excited about this latest Foods of the Moment post because it features some new to me products that have now become staples in my diet as well as some new additions of old product lines that I love! Plus, I’m giving you a recipe I teased a few month’s back just for the heck it…also because I’m currently obsessed with muffins. (Who isn’t!?) Review and recipe time!!
I’ve heard a lot about Joseph’s Bakery over the years, mostly their low carb products, but since I’m not low carb I never really picked them up. Well that all changed when I discovered that had regular bread products. The company sent me over a case full of their whole wheat lavash and I could not wait to start cooking with it. I love lavash! Especially making pizzas and chips with them (they crisp up so well in the oven!) and I haven’t been able to get my hands on a good whole grain lavash in a few years. What I look for in my bread products? 100% made from whole grains, no added sugars, and minimal ingredients over all. Joseph’s Bakery met all my expectations! A serving size is half a lavash but I use the whole thing at once! It’s huge for only about 220 calories and is very soft and doughy.
When I used it for a pizza in the oven, it crisped up perfectly! The natural sweetness and nuttiness of the wheat is delicious and I love that their are less than 7 ingredients. Overall, I really liked these lavashes and will eating them up quick! I can’t wait to experiment with some huge wraps and quesadillas. Thanks Joseph’s!
Clif Bar hooked me up with some of their new products (as well as some old favorites from their line!). They’ve added new Kit’s Organic flavors, a new line of Trail Mix bars, some Organic Energy Food squeeze packs, and two new Clif bar flavors. I’ve been a huge fan of their Kit’s Organic line since they released it so I was so pumped to see some new flavors! Kit’s Bars
Dark Chocolate Walnut: This seriously tasted like one of my grandma’s fudgy walnut brownies! They nailed the chocolate flavor and I love how rich this was. So chocolatey with huge chunks of crunchy walnuts throughout!
Dark Chocolate Peanut: A healthy reese’s cup! That’s how I would describe this bar. You really can’t go wrong with peanut butter and chocolate, and Clif has the perfect balance of the two in this bar! The addition of sea salt really brings out the chocolate flavor and enhances the sweetness of the peanuts!
Dark Chocolate Chili Almond: I LOVE chili and chocolate together! This bar was sweet and very chocolatey with a nice kick at the end. The chili was not overpowering but you could definitely taste the spice and a little heat. It reminded me of Mexican hot chocolate!
Trail Mix Bars
I LOVE the new trail mix bars! They have that sweet n’ salty combo going on and are FULL of whole pieces of nuts and seeds. I love that you can actually SEE what you’re eating. They also aren’t too sweet or sticky and they come in some great flavors. I especially liked Coconut Almond Peanut…who knew coconut and peanut went so well together!?
Two great additions to the Clif bar classic line! And both flavors are totally different. The Berry Pomegranate Chia is very fruity tasting with a strong cranberry-strawberry flavor and the Nuts&Seeds bar is just what you’d think…chockfull of nuts and seeds! I love nuts so I enjoyed the subtle sweetness combined with the rich peanut and almond flavors. Both had that soft baked texture and were very dense. Definitely a filling snack option!
Organic Energy Food
I currently don’t have a need for energy gels/pouches since I’m not really working out or training, so instead I entrusted the sampling of these to my dad! He plays high intensity hockey twice a week and I thought these would be perfect for some quick fuel before he hits the ice. Here are his thoughts…
Pizza Margherita: I don’t know how they did it but this stuff is ‘pizza in a pouch’. There’s a great mixture of sweet and salty flavor. It’s savory and rich tasting from the added oil and sunflower seed butter.
Banana Mango Coconut: Lots of tropical sweetness! Reminiscent of a pina colada and incredibly fresh tasting. I could feel the burst of energy right away from the high levels of glucose and fructose. Also, the coconut shreds added nice texture.
And now for that muffin recipe I promised! These are flourless, gluten free, full of protein, and have no added sugar! Can’t go wrong.
