Before I get to the main point of today’s post I wanted to thank Jess for pointing out the mistake I made on yesterday’s post! I referred to the workout I posted as an incline walking workout but it was actually a treadmill speed interval workout….sorry for the confusion!
[here it is again incase you missed it!]
I do actually have an awesome incline walking workout to share with you all but I will save that to be a part of my WIAW post!
As I mentioned the other day, I read a really inspiring, incredibly well written post by Cheryl! It was perfect for her blog because it talked about defining happiness vs. healthiness (her blog name is Happy is the New Healthy!). After providing her own definitions she encouraged others to define those two words for themselves in their own lives….I am always up for a challenge!
But to tell you the truth, it wasn’t to hard to differentiate between these two states of being. To me, being healthy is doing what feels right for you, doing what you love, being confident in your life decisions, and making choices that allow you to live YOUR life to its fullest capacity. In essence, doing what makes you happy means you’re leading a healthy lifestyle.
Sure the typical images that come to mind when you think of the word healthy are fit people in the gym, lots of vegetables, and those ever important 8 glasses of daily water…but in reality, HEALTH is so much more than that. It’s unique to every person!
Now you may be thinking that “Oh I can’t be healthy and happy at the same time!”. But that’s not the case…you have to find a happy medium between the two and find things that fit into both categories for your lifestyle. For example, maybe you feel like you HATE exercise and love eating junk food…maybe you think those things will make you happy. But if you consider the long term effects of those habits you’ll realize that your life could be hindered negatively by those choices and thus effect your happiness. Instead, you could try and find some form of movement or activity that you really enjoy and indulge in your favorite foods in moderation. Not only would you be leading a balanced lifestyle free of extremes/all or nothing mentalities, but you would be maintaining your health while still remaining happy and content.
For some of us out there, healthy living is what makes us happy! I am one of those people for sure. Being happy for me is being well in my mind and body. By taking care of my mind and body I am able to experience the world around me and live the crap out of each day (excuse my choice of words!). I want to maximize my life…get everything out of it that I can. Being happy and healthy are one in the same for me. I can’t have one without the other.
And today’s July Blogging Challenge prompt, goes hand in hand with keeping in mind health and happiness…
Day 8– How do you envision your life in 5 years?
In a perfect world, I would be a college graduate living in a big city with a career that encompasses all my passions and interests. But seeing as I don’t exactly know the direction I want to go in yet, I would take being happy, healthy, self sufficient, and an influential member in whatever community I find myself in. Whether I am working in some governmental position in DC, a leader for an outdoor adventure camp, a correspondent abroad for a national news network, a lobbyist for better food standards in the FDA, a lawyer, a chef, a writer…whatever! As long as I am pursuing my passions and love what I am doing.
To give you a little break from this wall o’ text…here are some pics from the cemetery tour I took over the weekend! This cemetery is right down the street from my house and although I go there for runs and rides all the time, it was cool to take sometime to look at some of the more famous plots and sites!
We saw Millard Fillmore’s grave as well as some of the OLDEST tombs in the cemetery! My inner history buff was intrigued
What does being happy and being healthy mean to you?
Do you find cemeteries cool or creepy?
Meet ya back here tomorrow night for some WIAW fun!
