Chocolatey sweet cereal made with a mix of high quality cocoa and superfood mushrooms! Gluten-free, vegan, and only made with 7 ingredients. This copycat of your favorite childhood staple is healthier (and TASTIER!) than the original!
Did you know that’s my alter ego? 😉 Truth is, I eat cereal in some form everyday. Whether it’s on top of overnight oats or smoothies at breakfast or filling a big bowl for a snack before bed. I love cereal and I’m not picky when it comes to it. I like ALL kinds: flakes, nuggets, puffs, squares, clusters, clumps, granolas!
My latest recipe that I have for you today check off all of those points…plus one more: CHOCOLATE. In fact, I think you’ll be reminded of one of your childhood favorites upon first bite.
See I recently had the opportunity to try some products from Four Sigmatic. Their Chaga Mushroom Elixir, Mushroom Coffee Mix, and even their Mushroom Hot Cacao Mix (!!!). A little bit about Four Sigmatic before I elaborate on my love of that hot cacao mix…
Four Sigmatic was established on the principle that people need help cutting through all the nutritional nonsense out there and given a clear path to superfoods like medicinal mushrooms. With this goal in mind, they set out to make these powerfully potent foods tasty, easy to incorporate in your diet, and actually enjoyable to ingest.
Well I’d say they succeeded! They created a line of superfood medicinal mushroom elixirs, coffee mixes, and nutrient dense blends that have such a pleasant taste, are paleo and vegan, and give you all the benefits of these ancient health foods.
Made with cordyceps and reishi mushrooms, their hot cacao mix is truly the healthiest you’ll find on the market. When I sipped a cup of the mix for the first time, I was immediately transported back to the days of slurping up chocolatey cereal milk after a big bowl of Cocoa Krispies.
Was anyone else a fan? All the fun of Snap Crackle Pop! with an added bonus of chocolatey deliciousness. Right then, I knew the hot cacao mix would be perfect for recreating one of my childhood faves. But this wouldn’t be just any copycat recipe. This cereal is bursting with superfoods from all the amazing, nutrient dense ingredients in the Four Sigmatic products. And the taste? Well it’s right on point!
- 1.5 cups puffed rice cereal
- ¼ cup raw buckwheat groats
- 1 packet Four Sigmatic Hot Chocolate Mix
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 4 tbsp date syrup (10 dates soaked overnight, blended with ½ cup soaking liquid)
- ¼ tsp sea salt
- ¼ tsp vanilla bean powder
- Optional: 2 tbsp unsweetened chocolate chips
- Preheat oven to 350. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together (except chocolate chips if using). Evenly spread mixture on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Bake for 9 minutes, stirring half way through. Let cool before mixing in chocolate chips. Store in an airtight container or bag.
Made with puffed rice just like the original, this cereal is an upgrade from regular Cocoa Krispies in a number of ways…
+ it’s only 7 ingredients
+ has no added sugar
It’s also perfectly sweet, crunchy, and chocolatey. Not to mention a great way to incorporate cordyceps and reishi mushrooms into your life if you don’t like the taste of them on their own.
If you make this cereal you’ll become a Cereal Killer just like me…that is, if you’re not already! 😉
