Around New Year’s, everyone starts hyper focusing on their diets, their weight, and ‘getting back on track’ or on a new plan in general. As I’ve said before, I’m not one for resolutions or New Year’s lifestyle fads. Instead I believe in striving to be happy and healthy all year-long! And that does not include dieting, weight loss, and restriction. In fact, I am a proponent of eating more!
Contrary to popular belief most people are not eating ENOUGH throughout the day. They skip meals, they eat diet snacks, and then end up going hog-wild later in the day or on weekends to ‘make up for it’ or ‘reward themselves’. Instead of just keeping their glucose levels stable and consistent all day, they experience wide ranges of highs and lows that messes with their metabolisms, created brain fog, and contributes to them making unhealthy choices later on. My solution for this ongoing cycle of famine and feast? SNACKING.
I am a HUGE fan of snacking. In addition to my 3 meals a day, I also have 3 snacks. They keep me from getting hangry between meals, keep my blood sugars steady, keep my energy levels up, and allow me to get through my work day effectively, efficiently, and with the utmost clarity of thought. Aside from all of that, I ENJOY them. And you should ENJOY food. Yes, it’s meant to fuel us and give us proper nutrition, but aside from that it’s just GOOD. It’s comforting, it tastes good, and it’s one of the simple pleasures in life. Do not feel guilty for enjoying food! EVER.
