You would probably think I got all these fab food finds from a high priced health food store or something, right?
Sorry to say, but you’d be wrong. 🙂
So where did I get all these delightful treats you ask. MARSHALS!
I don’t know if you guys over on the West coast have Marshals, but it’s a store that sells, well, EVERYTHING. They buy name brand products and sell them for super low discounted prices. I always find good deals on clothes and shoes there, but I never considered looking at the food section. Albeit the food section is pretty small, but they had tons of great (and healthy brands). Just check out the awesome ingredients on these flatbread crackers I found:
No sugar added cinnamon raisin crackers=total love. Why haven’t I ever seen these before!?!?
Aside from these I also bought some crackers made only by organics yucca plant.
I don’t really know what yucca tastes like ( do any of you?), but I thought they looked really interesting. I got two boxes of Seedlander Dr. Krackers (my favorite variety) for less than half the price they are at my local store,
banana walnut and oatmeal raisin GNU Fiber Flavor Bars, and some Wai Lanna Cherry Almond fruit and nut bars. Wai Lanna was one of the first products reviews I ever did and I was really excited to see these for such a low price at Marshals because they are usually about 4 dollars per bar. In total I got all that stuff for less than 20 bucks!!! Such a steal.
Just goes to show, you can find good great deals on anything, anywhere. With school right around the corner 🙁 I know I will looking for deals of all kinds to made back to school shopping less expensive.
On to some great eats of yesterday and today.
Last night’s dinner was what I like to call a one bowl wonder meal. Basically everything you need for a balanced meal in one bowl. Heres how I made it.
Kaila’s Loaded Bowl
2 cups of bulgur wheat (could use quinoa or rice)
3 cups water
1 can low sodium black beans, drained and rinsed
1 pint grape or cherry tomato’s, halved
1 cup cilantro, chopped
2 avocados, diced
Juice of one lime and one lemon
Spices: I used sweet basil, thyme, chili powder, and red pepper flakes
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup white balsamic vinegar
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
salt and pepper
turkey cutlets (optional)
Boil water, add bulgur, and cook until all water is absorbed. Cool in refrigerator. Once cool, mix Bulgar, beans, tomatoes, cilantro, avocado, spices, and citrus juices into a bowl. Combine oil, vinegar, garlic, and s/p into a small food processor and blend until garlic is pureed and all is blended. Pour dressing over bulgur mixture and mix until evenly coated. If using turkey cutlets, grill them, slice them up, and top each persons individual bowl with some.
I topped mine with some salsa, for some mexican flavors and ate some baked eggplant on the side. Everything was delicious. I love meals that have the perfect balance of protein, carbs, healthy fats, and veg.
Later on I had a little snack of carrots with Nuttzo and SSB with a super crunchy (just the way I like it) apple.
I didn’t fall asleep really early last night so I thought my sleeping schedule might be back on track, but sadly I woke up at 4 this morning. Guess not. Oh well, I am getting there.
I laid around until about 7 and then assembled an awesome breakfast.
Oatmeal with frozen blueberries, bananas, and a new product I was sent by Brothers All Natural, 100% strawberry fruit crisps.
I was looking for some crunch to add to my oats and these were perfect. Super crunchy from the freeze drying process and spot on strawberry taste. These are no sugar added and 100% natural with no added preservatives.
I liked these so much in fact that I dug into the apple crisps shortly after breakfast. Again I love the crispness of these and how the true apple taste is retained in the slices. Fuji apples are used for these and those are one of my favorite kinds of apples. I can’t wait to try all the others packs they sent.
Off to get a little sweat in before work! I am working on my own today for the first time….nervous!!! Wish me luck. 🙂
