A funny look at some of the characters you’ll find on Instagram these days. They’re everpresent, annoying, and yet Instagram wouldn’t be the same without them.
We’re all on Instagram. We all love Instagram.
…..For the most part. Of course, there are somethings about the social media platform, or rather PEOPLE on the platform, that can be….irritating.
I’ve identified 7 common types of annoying Instagrammers and am sharing with them with you today! I’m curious to hear in the comments if you’ve come across these people as well and if you find them bothersome. 😉
Note: Because there’s always one in the bunch that takes things literally…I’ll preface this post with: it’s all written in GOOD FUN. Don’t take things too seriously, folks! This is for levity and laughs…nothing more. Enjoy!
The Mr. and Ms. Know-It-Alls. The people who got their medical degrees from Google University or that cite Wikipedia as their top source of info. These self-righteous people will comment on anything and EVERYTHING giving their unsolicited 2 cents and letting you know exactly what you got wrong in your caption/picture.
The fitness industry version of an InstaExpert (see above). Everyone seems to be a fitness expert these days….whether they’re certified or not. Anyone with a good physique (or really anyone that has ever stepped in a gym) assumes they are now qualified to give diet AND nutrition advice to their followers. They charge people for their uncredentialed plans and maintain their following by posting daily booty and ab pics. Word to the wise…there is a TON of credible fitness information online. Don’t fall victim to fitspo scammer just because they’re Instagram account is popular. A big butt does not equal fitness knowledge. (Side note: don’t you love how those self-aggrandizing body pics are usually captioned with some deep, philosophical quote? 😂)
“I Live on the Gram” Guy
The people who you see commenting on EVERY account you follow (DiaryofaFitMommyOfficial comes to mind). Whether they’re celebrities, athletes, public figures, or influencers…these IG obsessed people comment and like as soon as a new picture goes up. They literally spend HOURS a day looking through their Instagram feed. Instead of working, volunteering, spending time with family or friends, helping others, connecting with people in person, or delving into hobbies/passions they sit behind their screens furiously scrolling and “engaging”. Who knew a double tap of the thumb could bring such fulfilment? 🤷🏻♀️
Angry people who live under bridges and say nasty things to people on Instagram. Maybe they have such bad attitudes because of the poor WiFi connection under the bridge? 😜
But in all seriousness, trolls are pretty easy to spot. They usually have no profile picture (or a very obscure one), little to no followers, are only following a few people themselves, and have no posts. Essentially, these people make fake accounts so they can (insta)stalk others, leave negative comments, or follow people anonymously. Keyboard courage at its finest!
I guess most people on Instagram could be considered this. These ‘grammers only post the best of the best. Their feeds are INCREDIBLY curated. Every picture appears to be PERFECT…making their lives appear perfect as well. But as we all know, no one and nothing is perfect, so it’s important not to get caught up in the
The foodie comes in two forms: the people who posts EVERYTHING they eat and the people who considers posting beautiful food an art form. It’s no wonder food pics are some of the most popular across the entire platform!
The Neverending Vacationer
Dude, we get it. You’re on vacation…again. You know how we know? Because all your posts are of you in a different locale, on a beach, in front of a famous landmark, or lounging by a luxury pool in a bathing suit. This is one of the more confusing ones of the bunch because the usual suspects in this category are 20 somethings, usually people you went to highschool with, who don’t seem to have jobs or any source of regular income. You’re scrolling through their endless #travel pics wondering how in the world can they travel so much and where do I sign up for that program?
Sure, we look at their pics and would love to be where they are. Who doesn’t like to travel?! Especially if it’s a place we’ve always wanted to go. But what we don’t want is to look like them while they’re #onvacation.
Let me explain: there they are someplace totally amazing that many of us have dreamed of going, but are they even enjoying it? No…probably not at all actually. What they’re doing is taking photos of themselves or trying to get someone else to take the perfect ‘gram worthy photo of them so they can show everyone what an amazing time they’re having and how special they are (see Highlight Reelers above). My point is these people try way to hard….and it shows. Personally, one of the best things I like about traveling is: UNPLUGGING.
