Thanks for all the great feedback and discussion on my last post! Everyone had an awesome take on that last Q and A question! I loved reading everyone’s opinions!
I have a cute little story to share with you all tonight! Hope you enjoy.
Yesterday after I got done with work, my mom and I took Ella for a little walk. We were headed home when all of the sudden Ella stopped dead in her tracks. She was sniffing a small grey blob on our neighbors lawn. I took a closer look and discovered it was a little baby robin just sitting in the grass.
My first thought was “I’ve got to get Ella away from it” and my second thought was “Wait a second, look how sweet Ella’s being….maybe they can be friends!!”. Like these two!!!
Once I got back to reality from my furry little fantasy, I realized that we couldn’t just leave the guy! There was obviously something wrong with him (I assuming it was a boy ) because he wasn’t trying to fly away or anything.
So I went over and scooped him up and carried him all the way home. I didn’t really have a plan on what we should do with the little guy, but we at least thought we should try and feed him.
He didn’t really take to the soggy bread, but he did start chirping which was absolutely adorable! After a while we decided that we’d try and call a local emergency vet office to see if they would take our new little friend in for the night. They referred us to the SPCA and a few phone calls later we were on our way at 9:30 at night to drop our birdie off.
In the car he fell asleep right in my hands and began “purring” in away….at least that’s what it reminded me of! I aaaaaalmost didn’t want to hand him over. But the lady who met us in the SPCA was so happy that we brought him in. They will seriously take any animals and she was telling us how so many animals could be saved if people would just take the time to drop them off.
I felt good about leaving him there. They said they would get him all healed up and even asked us where we found him so that they could drop him off in his original environment…..is that service or what!?!?!
Maybe this wasn’t that big of a deal….but it really made my night! It was just nice to put all my focus into helping out another life instead of stressing about all the other stuff going on in my life right now. I personally think it was a sign telling me to just slow down and take one day at a time.
Ps: We called today to check and see how the birdie (I’m calling him Percy ) was doing…..they said JUST GREAT!
Do you like animals?
Have you ever taken a stray/injured animal to your local SPCA?
Well now we’ve taken a bird as well as 3 stray dogs we found!
Have you ever considered working with animals as a profession?
This little experience has really got some wheels turning in my head…..possibly veterinarian school?
