We all have those go-to recipes that we make so often and know like the back of our hands, right?
Those simple, easy to make staples in our weekly meals that are so familiar we don’t even write them down anymore. I have quite a few of these and sometimes I forget that just because I know it backwards and forwards doesn’t mean that everyone else does. In fact, a lot of people often ask me about these foods and meals I feature on my Instagram, wondering how I make them or what ingredients go into them!
It makes sense! I mean when I see something delicious online I immediately want to know how to make it myself. So today I am finally honoring your frequent requests for my Thai Basil Peanut Sauce recipe! I should say sauce/dip because it works great as both.
This is one of the most highly asked about recipes that I feature on my Instagram feed! I often have it with pasta and salmon, as a dip for tempeh or spring rolls, or straight out of the bowl! 😉 It’s just that good.
I had an excuse to make a big batch of it the other day when I got my hands on some new pasta to try.
I LOVE pasta. And I am not picky when it comes to different kinds. So yes, that means I eat tofu noodles just as often as I eat regular pasta. Both are good, both work with different sauces and ingredients, and both offer different things to a meal!
One of my favorite tofu brands, House Foods, just released a new line of shirataki noodles called SMART Noodles. Unlike traditional shirataki noodles made with only yam flour, these are made with oat fiber, flaxseed, and rice bran as well! The added ingredients makes them more similar to regular pasta noodles.
I know one of the biggest complaints with shirataki noodles is that they are rubbery, sort of slimy, or even smell weird. Well, this is simply not the case with these new Smart Noodles (or ANY of the House Foods products for that matter). They’re more firm, have more substance to them, and actually taste like regular pasta. I love ’em and I think you will too!
Now that you’ve got your noodles…here’s the long-awaited sauce! 🙂
Creamy Thai Basil Peanut Dip [vegan + gluten-free]
- Yield: 3 servings 1x
- Category: Savory Snacks
- 6 oz House Foods Medium Firm Tofu
- 1 tbsp peanut flour
- 1/2 tsp thai red curry paste
- 1/2 tsp Bragg’s Liquid Aminos (or soy sauce)
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. Store in the refrigerator.
Much like my Vegan Caesar Dip, this sauce is high in protein, low-fat, oil free, gluten-free, and only has a few simple ingredients. It’s beyond creamy and delicious though! The salty, peanut-y taste with a hint of spice can’t be beat.
