Pretty vague title, right? Well if you haven’t heard of these two companies than you’d probably think so. But once I fill you in on who they are and what they make I think you’ll be pretty excited. I’ll be honest these two companies make BANGING products!
Needless to say, I have to two awesome products to introduce you all to tonight…plus a delicious recipe that I made using one of the products I was sent.
Dave’s Gourmet Sauce
Dave’s Gourmet produces a wide variety of foods! Everything from snacks to hot sauces. I was lucky enough to try three of their best-selling pasta sauces. I was pretty happy about their choice of product to send me because as an Italian girl I am a sauce lover!
But it also makes me a pretty tough critic. 😉
My family rarely buys jarred sauces because we usually prefer making our own (my grandma’s recipe has been in the family forever), but on the rare occasion that we do, we have pretty high standards. Luckily, Dave’s sauces met and actually EXCEEDED our expectations!
I loved how whole and natural each of the ingredients lists was and how such unique flavor combinations were put together.
The Roasted Garlic & Sweet Basil was the perfect combination of sweet and savory and actually was fantastic on its own. It didn’t even need any other add-ins when we tried it with some whole wheat penne!
We tried the Red Heiloom as a base for a Bolognese sauce we made. Some veggies and shrimp were added to make a well rounded meal. I liked that this sauce was different than your typical red sauce because of the heirloom tomatoes. You can really taste the difference when those are used.
And finally…the BUTTERNUT SQUASH sauce. No words people. I had this with whole wheat gnocchi and “Mmmm-ed” my whole way through the meal. Let me tell you, a little of this sauce goes a long way! The sweetness, creaminess, and richness of the sauce pack a ton of flavor. I think you could put this sauce on carb board and make it taste good. I would love to try and make a homemade version!
We used Dave’s sauces not only on pasta but on some homemade pizza as well (you’ll see it in this week’s WIAW). The flavor and chunkiness of the sauce worked perfectly in both meals!
Dastony specializes in 100% organic, 100% raw nut butters! I was sent one of each of their varieties to try and was really pleased with the quality of each one.
This tahini was the smoothest and thinnest tahini I’ve ever seen! It was so fresh and you could really taste the raw sesame seeds used to make it.
The coconut butter took a little heat to make it spreadable, but once I was able to try it I was in heaven. So rich and delicious! The cashew butter and almond butter were both incredibly sweet from the natural taste of the nuts and I was so impressed with their smoothness! No grittiness or lumps to be found. Both paired perfectly with fruit as well as grains! Oh and FYI, cashew butter rivals PB for deliciousness with sweet potatoes! INCREDIBLE COMBO.
I was really impressed with how creamy and flavorful each butter was despite being completely raw and only having one ingredient! Even after trying all of them individually I thought it would be a good idea to try and make something with them. Luckily for me inspiration struck pretty quickly since my parents were having a party this weekend. They wanted to serve humus as an appetizer so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try the tahini in a homemade batch! I usually suck at making homemade humus because I try and do it without tahini since I’ve always been hesitant to buy a big container of it. But this time it came out awesome since I had ALL the authentic ingredients! Tahini for the win!
Roasted Red Pepper-Garlic Humus
2 cans chickpeas, rinsed and drained (reserve liquid)
6 tbsp tahini
1/4 cup olive oil
2 garlic cloves
a squeeze of lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup roasted red peppers
1/2 cup chickpea liquid
Add all ingredients, except chickpea liquid, to a food processor and begin to process. Slowly add chickpea liquid until desired consistency is achieved.
Serve with crudités, pita, or pretzels!
It worked out perfectly for my parents party!
