Deliciously fudgy, vegan brownies for your next family get-together or picnic! These Double Chocolate Brownies are so rich and chocolatey that you’d never guess they were HEALTHY! Gluten-free, Medjool date-sweetened, and SO drool-worthy.
It’s been a couple months since I last linked up with The Recipe Redux and I’ve missed it so much! I knew I couldn’t miss another month, especially one as special as JUNE! Did you know June marks the 6th anniversary of the creation of The Recipe Redux? So of course we have to celebrate BIG.

In honor of our 6th birthday, we’re celebrating with cake…or another small bite dessert that fits your fancy. Show us your healthy small bite dessert creation.
You don’t have to ask me twice to make a dessert!
I love this theme because small bite/handheld desserts are my fave! I prefer cupcakes over cake, truffles over big slices of Torte, and cookies over puddings. Anything that’s easier to eat and can be taken on the go is my jam.
I knew exactly what I wanted to make for this month once I saw the theme. Brownies. I love brownies. More than cake or cookies or even ice cream. And brownies just scream summer BBQ season to me! Just like you’ll always find some sort of mac n’ cheese at a cookout, there’s usually some sort of brownies for dessert. They are a staple of summer. At least in my life!
Luckily, I just got a shipment of my favorite baking ingredient when I went to create this recipe…Natural Delights Medjool Dates. AKA the best natural sweetener on earth.
If you’ve never tried dates or think you don’t like them, try these. They literally taste like CANDY. Nature’s caramel. So sweet, soft, and satisfying. I love them with nut butter, in yogurt bowls, or just straight out of the container. Plus you can’t beat the nutrients they provide! Natural Delights Medjool Dates pack 50% more potassium by weight than bananas, loads of dietary fiber, and of course that sweet sweet taste we all love without any added sugar!
Of course, these delicious Double Chocolate Brownies are only sweetened with Medjool dates, making them no sugar added as well!
Double Chocolate Brownies
- Prep Time: 10 mins
- Cook Time: 20 mins
- Total Time: 30 mins
- Yield: 9 brownies 1x

- 1 cup GF oat flour
- 8 Medjool Dates + ¾ cup water, pureed together
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa
- ½ tsp vanilla bean powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ cup dark chocolate chips
- water, as needed to thin batter
- Preheat oven to 350. Line an 8×8 baking dish with parchment paper. In a large bowl combine oat flour, cocoa, baking powder + baking soda, and vanilla bean powder. Pour in date puree. Mix together until evenly combined. Fold in chocolate chips and stir. Spread brownie mixture in prepared baking dish. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven, let cool on a wire rack, slice, and serve with banana ice cream for a fully vegan dessert!
Vegan, gluten-free, and so easy to make. Just puree your dates, mix together your dry ingredients, and bake for 20 minutes. You’ll be on your way to brownie heaven in no time!
I can’t tell you how perfect the texture of these brownies are. So soft and fluffy. Not to mention FILLED with chocolate flavor from the cocoa powder and additional chocolate chips. Each bites is filled with little pieces of chocolate goodness!
If you bring these to your next BBQ or summer potluck, they’ll certainly be the HIT of the party! People won’t believe how simple these brownies are and how healthy they are despite tasting so decadent. Perfect for celebrating The Recipe Redux’s birthday too! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
