Foods of the Moment featuring all the latest and greatest health food products on the market!
I mentioned on Wednesday that it had been a while since my last WIAW post. Well it’s been just as long since my last Foods of the Moment post! In fact, probably even longer. Today I am bringing you a fully loaded round of Foods of the Moment WITH a fun giveaway at the end! Gotta make it up to you guys somehow. 😉
Julian Bakery sent me two of their newest paleo protein bars: Glazed Donut and Vanilla Cake. These bars Julian’s answer to Quest bars, but I like them better because they have more natural ingredients and sweeteners. No sucralose in sight!
Paleo Protein Bars are gluten-free, have 20 grams of protein (from egg whites!), and are sweetened with stevia or lo han guo. I like how big they are and how dense and chewy their texture is. And the flavor? SPOT ON. I don’t know how they did it, but Julian Bakery was able to make protein bars that taste EXACTLY like what they’re named.
I enjoyed the bars straight out of the freezer so they were more hard and crunchy. But as they thawed, they got a delicious thick and chewy texture sort of like a Tootsie Roll. YUM! Now that I’ve tried these two, I really want to try the other flavors to see if they hold true to their amazing taste!
Thanks Julian Bakery!
Who’s a SharkTank fan out there?! Well I am a HUGE one! So I was PUMPED to get the chance to review a company whose products have been featured on the show. O’Dang Humus creates sauces/dressings that are humus based instead of oil based. How ingenious is that?!
The sauce comes in 4 different flavors: Hummy Mustard (sweet and tangy), Ranch Ranch Revolution (couldn’t believe how much this tasted like actual ranch…very creamy too), Caesar (so good that it rivaled my Vegan Caesar Dressing!), and Bombalicious Buffalo (this Buffalo girl approves, spicy and tangy with nice kick of heat…tasted sort of like Frank’s to me!). All the sauces are dairy, oil, and preservative free. Just made with whole, real food ingredients! That’s what I like to see on the back of my dressing bottles. If I don’t make dressing myself, these are the next best thing. I also like that they are pretty thick and creamy. Their consistency is in between regular humus and traditional salad dressing. Great for dipping or drizzling!
Very impressed, O’Dang!
Jackfruit is totally the new IT food. I’ve tried it dried before and really liked it’s sweet flavor. When The JackFruit Company reached out to me about trying their refrigerated version, I was really excited to give it a go!
This was my first time trying real, fresh jackfruit and I didn’t know what to expect. I knew that a lot of people rave about it and it’s meaty texture, but upon opening the package, I wasn’t sure what I was in for. The contents can be eaten straight from the package and the company offers up some serving and cooking options.
I ended up trying both flavors, Curry and Tex-Mex, cold and warm. I have to say I much prefer them heated up. The texture gets more meaty and the flavor is a little less BOLD when hot. Overall, I really liked both! The curry was extremely fragrant and flavorful with LOTS of curry spice. The Tex-Mex was more tomato-y and reminded of pulled pork a bit. Except totally vegan of course! My ONLY complaint is that both were a bit too oily and greasy for my liking. The sauces tasted amazing, but I could do with a tad less sunflower oil. My lips were coated after I finished munching!
Overall, I am really impressed and think jackfruit is a really cool food! I would love to find some fresh and do some cooking with it! There are so many possibilities. Thanks JackFruit Company!
