A roundup of the latest and greatest products from the health food world on HealthyHelperBlog.com!
The first part of the week was all about BBQ. Now we’re moving on to my other favorite “B” word….BREAKFAST! I’ve got a Foods of the Moment post for you today that is FULL of delicious breakfast foods. Or at least foods that can be eaten at breakfast time! You know me, I eat different foods at all different times of the day. 😉
There’s something for everyone in this edition of Foods of the Moment! Whether you’re paleo, vegan, have food allergies, always on the go, or just like eating darn good food in general (AKA: me), you’ll find a new health food product that’s right up your alley.
So let’s get into it!
For breakfast on the go…
SunRype recently released two new snack bars in addition to their extensive line of 100% fruit snack products! I was so happy to see them come out with a line of bars because I’ve loved their fruit snacks for YEARS. Made from 100% fruit, no added sugar! Just how I like my fruit. 🙂
The new bars are Energy and Fruit & Chia. The Energy ones come in Chocolate Coconut and Raspberry Chocolate, while the Fruit & Chia ones come in Mango Twist and Apple Cinnamon.
I knew just from reading the flavors that I’d like these bars. Fruit and chocolate? You can’t go wrong. Both are made from dried fruits, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. The Energy bars have a special blend of pea protein, green tea and ginseng that deliver a natural feel-good boost of energy to your day. Perfect for getting you moving in the morning! I love the Fruit & Chia bars’ texture…soft and dense, yet slightly crunchy from the plentiful chia seeds throughout.
The bars are about the size of a Larabar and a little more firm than them. They’re also all 100% gluten-free and vegan! Overall, I was really impressed with how sweet and fruit each of them tasted. The fact that they use real fruit in them makes them taste like the actual fresh version of those fruits as opposed to some artificial, chemically made flavoring. Honestly, I don’t even think the bars need the added brown rice syrup because the fruit tastes amazing on its own!
For a paleo breakfast…
You haven’t had paleo-friendly bread until you’ve had a bagel or bun from Fox Hill Kitchens. I am telling you….these folks know bread! And it’s GOOD BREAD. Not just good for being free of wheat, gluten, and grains…but good all on its own.
Fox Hill Kitchens of Vermont makes low-carb, paleo bread that is almond and coconut based. I was sent their everything bagels, buns, croutons, and rolls to try! All the bread products pretty much taste the same except the bagels have lots of everything seasoning. One thing unique about the bagels is that they have seasoning on both sides instead of just on top. Double sided bagels are now my new favorite! Every bagel shop should make them like this.
The breads are all very soft and fluffy despite being gluten- and grain-free! I was surprised that they toast up extraordinarily well. I actually like them both toasted and un-toasted. The flavor is slightly salty and nutty unlike regular bread. The taste is truly unique to Fox Hill Kitchens’ products. Great texture, unusual taste, and full of healthy fats! Just how I like my food. 🙂
Obsessed doesn’t even begin to describe how much I’ve fallen in love with Wildway. Their brand, their products, EVERYTHING. How did I go this long without knowing that these amazing granolas and hot cereals existed? Well, I need to make up for lost time that’s for sure.
Wildway creates grain-free breakfast foods (granola and hot cereals) that are also sweetener-free, vegan, oil-free, and non-GMO. But they certainly aren’t taste free! In fact, they may just be some of the best granolas I’ve ever had. More chewy instead of crunchy, but amazingly sweet and flavorful! The banana nut tastes like warm, baked banana bread while the coconut reminds me of fresh coconut milk. Tropical and bursting with vanilla goodness too! I love both on their own, but in milk or on top of yogurt, they’re even better!
The hot cereals are just as yummy and so easy to whip up for a post-workout snack. That’s what I’ve been using them as, at least. They’re full of calories and healthy fats which makes them very satisfying. I really like the smooth, Cream of Wheat-like texture that they have. My favorite was the Java Chip because of all the wonderful crunchy cacao nibs throughout!
For an all around delicious breakfast…
Manna Organic Bakery asked if I’d like try a loaf of their manna bread and one of their new jars of nut butter. Bread and nut butter? Sign me up!
I chose the Millet Rice Bread and the Fig & Nut Butter. What I love about millet breads is how sweet and soft they are. Manna’s version didn’t disappoint! It was incredibly flavorful and cake-like. I especially liked the little rice nuggets throughout that added some chewy texture! All of Manna’s breads are yeast free, vegan, organic, free of salt, oil-free, and sugar-free. I really don’t know how they do it!
I was a big fan of the nut butter as well. I love dipping figs in nut butter, so figs IN nut butter couldn’t be bad. It wasn’t! In fact it was delicious! It’s also vegan and made with 100% organic ingredients just like the bread. I loved the fig and chunks throughout and the pairing of cashew/almond butter was perfect. Definitely a high quality, high in taste nut butter! Especially if you like your nut butters a little sweet without a ton of added sugar. No added sugar in these jars!
Javazen is SO COOL. Being the coffee lover that I am (more like addict), I was excited to try their tea-infused coffee! They claim it has twice the energizing power of coffee without the jitters or crash that you get from coffee. I can whole heartedly agree with that and I love that it can be made in a french press machine or a regular auto-drip coffee maker. Though they recommend the french press!
There are 3 different varieties: Boost, Balance, and Relax. Each one has a different level of caffeine and a different mixture of tea leaves. Here are the caffeine stats:
I liked the Balance the best but I found I could brew the Relax later in the day and not feel like I was going to be up all night. Just the perfect afternoon energy boost I needed to get me through the 3pm slump! The Boost is AWESOME before a workout. No pre-workout needed as it really fired me up!
They all taste pretty bold and strong so I found that a little bit of each mixture goes a long way. I am one of those people who prefers weak coffee so these were a bit bitter for my tastes. But nothing a little cashew milk and stevia couldn’t fix!
Speaking of sweet, there is no added sugar in these mixes (just naturally occurring from some fruit that is used) and they are 100% gluten-free so they’re safe for all my celiac readers out there.
An awesome concept overall and totally different from any beverage I’ve had!
Hope this edition of FOTM helped you find some new, yummy breakfast foods to try. I certainly have been switching up my usual breakfasts with these products and LOVING it!
