Happy Friday, friends! It’s Foods of the Moment time again and I think you’ll especially like this one because it features the NEWEST products released from some top healthy living brands. It’s not always you get the exclusive look at what they’ve come out with, but with Foods of the Moment you get that chance. 🙂
Plus, it’s always fun for me to try new-to-me foods and share my first hand experiences with you all! It’s always good to get an idea of what you’re getting yourself into before you buy a product.
Made in Nature HOOKED ME UP! Not only did I receive a ton of my favorite dried fruits (apricots, mulberries, and goji berries), but they also sent me a sampling of their latest product releases: Toasted Coconut Chips and Fruit Fusions. Before I get into the individual flavors, a word on the toasted coconut chips…absolutely AMAZING. They’re perfectly crunchy, have a light buttery texture, and have such pronounced flavors! My family and I went through these bags in record time. Once you start munching you just can’t stop. Good thing they’re full of healthy fats, are naturally sweetened, and flavored with whole food ingredients. 🙂
Toasted Coconut Chips
Mexican Spiced Cacao-Rich, dark, chocolatey flavor with a nice spicy kick from the hot peppers! This reminded me of Mexican Hot Chocolate drink mix but totally upgraded by the undertones of coconut.
Ginger Masala Chai-The mix of spices in these chips is INSANE and you can taste every single one of them! Smooth, zesty ginger, warm cinnamon, and fragrant cardamom, nutmeg and clove…so good.
Maple Madagascar Vanilla-Sweet aromatic vanilla flavor with a hint of cinnamon and a light, tropical feel from the coconut.
Italian Espresso-You feel like you’ve walked into an Italian coffee shoppe when you open this bag. The espresso flavor is bold, pronounced, and perfectly complimented by the sweet coconut.
Vietnamese Cinnamon Swirl-Warm, spicy, and subtly sweet from a slight hint of maple! These have a wonderful caramelized flavor and their smell is tantalizing from the moment you open the bag. This cinnamon loving girl approves!
Super Berry-A delicious mix of tart cherries, blueberries, cranberries, raisins and goji berries. The addition of roasted pumpkin seeds makes for a perfect sweet n’ salty snack!
Tropical-Sit me on beach and pour me a Pina Colada! This mix transported me to a tropical oasis. The ingredients compliment each other so well….sun-ripened bananas, pineapples, mangoes and coconut, a touch of ginger, and crunchy, rich cacao nibs!
Thanks for putting me in fruit heaven, Made in Nature!
I know I’m going to get a lot of hate for featuring a low calorie noodle on the blog, but hear me out. I think ALL FOOD fits in a healthy diet…even low calorie, low fat ones like these. As long as you’re eating these products with other sources of carbs, fat, and protein, they can be an enjoyable part of any meal. It’s all about balance…fun foods, healthy foods, ‘junk’ foods…it’s all just food and no one should criticize your choices.
What’s my honest opinion on shiritaki noodles? I personally really like them! Skinny Shiritaki Noodles and rice have a really light chewy texture and they remind me of ramen noodles. They’re perfect for tossing with any sauce or toppings because they take on the flavor of whatever you pair with them. I like making homemade pho, lightened up mac and cheese, and stir fries with them! They are so easy to cook up (although cooking is not necessary) and they take on more of pasta like texture when you dry fry them. Some people complain about these types of noodles having a funky smell, but I didn’t notice that at all with this brand. I just took them out of the package, rinsed and drained them, and went to town jazzing them up with some tasty foods!
I like having these as an alternative to pasta sometimes because it allows me to have a different source of carbs at my meal. Sometimes I am craving a pasta sauce, but not really in the mood for noodles. Instead I’d rather have toast or a bagel! So with these I get to satisfy all my taste and texture cravings in the moment. Now, I’m not saying you can’t have pasta and a bagel at one meal…I just know for me, that would be waaaay too filling and I am not a fan of not finishing meals! I am a member of the clean plate club for sure.
These noodles are great! Super versatile too. I especially liked the new Spaghetti Style Noodles with Kale! It’s always good to sneak some greens into your diet and with these noodles you get all the nutrients of kale in a fun, noodle form. Perfect for someone who doesn’t really like the taste of kale but wants to reap its superfood benefits!
Thanks Skinny Noodles!
I’ve been a fan of New Gem Foods for a few years now ever since I discovered their products at one of my trips to Expo East. I use their Origami Wraps for sushi and for spring rolls all the time. They come in a wide variety of flavors and add such a nice, sweet counterpart to the salty peanut sauce I dip my rolls in. Recently, New Gem rereleased their line of Gem Wraps with new packaging and an even tastier formulation. Gem Wraps are different from Origami Wraps in that they’re a little thicker, a little sturdier, and intended to replace things like tortillas, bread or pita bread. They’re more for making sandwiches rather than sushi! This was my first time trying the Gem Wraps and I really liked them! They taste pretty similar to their Origami Wrap counterparts…but they really enhance the taste of the fillings and ingredients you choose to wrap in them.
Kale Apple-A nice sweet apple flavor that reminded me of applesauce! You couldn’t taste the kale at all but it was nice to know there were some green nutrients in there.
Tomato-Sweet tomato flavor like the sauce on a pizza or a homemade marinara! This was AWESOME stuffed with fresh mozzarella, basil, and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.
Mango Chipotle-My favorite of the bunch, but I am biased because this is the flavor in Origami Wraps that I use for my spring rolls. The sweet mango flavor is paired perfectly with a kick from chipotle peppers. I love stuffing it with seafood and other salty ingredients to balance everything out!
Carrot-The perfect vehicle for peanut butter in my opinion. I spread this with PB, topped with banana, and sprinkled it with cinnamon for quick, delicious snack! Love the fresh carrot taste.
My favorite things to put inside of these were humus, whole avocados all mashed up, tuna salad, and cream cheese! But really, anything works and you can come up with some awesome combinations! Much like the noodles, I mentioned above, these are not a bread replacement for me as I always serve them with some sort of carb source. They’re just a nice way to switch things up from your traditional sandwich or wrap! They’re also all natural, made from fruits and veggies, and have no added sugar! Can’t beat those stats.
Thanks New Gem…I am big fan and these products are quickly becoming a staple in my household!
