Everybody! SNACKS SNACKS SNACKS!
I like that as an alternative to this jam. 😉
And snacks just happen to be the focus of today’s Foods of the Moment post. But before we get into the good stuff…check out the new button for this posting series!
You like? It’s so much brighter and fresher in my opinion!
Let’s get right into the food though since I have A LOT to share today. This may go down as one of the most jam-packed FOTM posts ever. So grab a snack and settle in!
As you know I am a Simply Protein Wellness Ambassador! So that means getting shipments of their newest product releases on a monthly basis. There are some exciting things going on with them and I am happy to introduce you to the latest additions to their products line.
They now have a Kids Bar! These are perfect for little ones (or the young at heart!) because they are smaller in size, a little sweeter than their regular bars, and are totally peanut free (so they are safe for schools). They also come in some delightfully fun flavors: Banana Chocolate, Apple Maple, and Strawberry Vanilla. The Banana Chocolate had a real banana flavor and was very chocolatey, the Apple Maple is reminiscent of fresh apple pancakes with syrup, and the Strawberry Vanilla tastes like ice cream! They really did well with creating these flavors.
Simply Protein also came out with a new flavor of their Protein Chips. Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper. I’ve always been a fan of their protein chips because they have great nutritional stats and pack a lot of flavor for having very recognizable, simple ingredients. The latest flavor is super salty, with a nice bit of heat from the pepper. I am very sensitive to salt, so I found them a little overwhelming. But I still enjoyed munching and crunching on them! Great for stress eating. 😉
I’ve finally jumped on the MEAT wagon. Jerky, meat bars, and other meaty snacks are all the rage right now, but I have yet to really try any out since I don’t eat red meat. Luckily some companies have been coming out with poultry versions of those types of products, so I can finally get a taste for what all the hype is about.
Wild Zora creates meat and veggie bars made from all natural, free range meats and organic vegetables. All the bars are gluten, dairy, soy, and nut free. I was sent their Turkey Masala Spinach bar to try. At first bite I was immediately hit with the masala spice flavor. It reminded me of an indian dish with lots of curry and cumin powder! The bars were subtly sweet and slightly salty which made for an enjoyable taste. They also weren’t too tough like jerky can sometimes be. The cayenne added some spiciness and I really liked how bold the flavor was!
These bars are around a 100 calories each and have a healthy amount of whole food protein per serving. Great for refueling muscles after a workout or getting you through that afternoon slump!
Benefit Foods creates vegan fruit and nut bars called V Bars that are also gluten and soy free! I am always looking for a new energy bar to try and you can’t go wrong with ones made from real, whole foods. I was sent two of their flavors to sample…
Almond Fig Carob-I love dried figs and this had a very strong fig taste…it was the most prominent taste throughout! I liked the addition of almonds for some crunch and the carob added a subtly sweet chocolatey flavor.
Sunflower Ginger-Loved the combination of tropical coconut, sweet cashews, and spicy ginger in this bar. It was very sweet and gave me a great boost of energy before a workout. The ginger really wakes you up!
The only thing I wish were different about these bars is that they were only fruit sweetened. There is added white sorghum syrup in the bars, but with all the fruit they have in them, I think they would be plenty sweet on their own! Just my opinion…I understand sometimes liquid sweeteners are needed to bind other ingredients.
The V Bars come in 4 other awesome flavors and if you’re looking for a good-sized snack bar, these are them! I like that they aren’t teeny tiny and actually have some satiating qualities to them.
Doctor in the Kitchen sent me a plethora of flax filled snacks to try out! 5 varieties of ‘Flackers’ and some of their new Seedster sprouted snacks. I was enchanted by the flacker flavors right off the bat. They all sounded so good. All the crackers had a crunchy, crispy texture and were pretty hearty despite the small servings sizes. I usually had a few servings at a time to satisfy my snack needs.
All Doctor in the Kitchen products are gluten-free and FULL of omega-3s and fiber since they are mostly made from whole flax-seed. The Flackers are also sprouted and raw.
Dill-tasted of vinegar with a nice kick at the end (my favorite out of the bunch)
Tomato Basil-reminded me of a pizza flavored cracker and I loved the strong basil taste
Cinnamon & Currants– the sweetest out of the bunch but with no added sugar…reminded me a cinnamon raisin cookie
Savory-this one had all the flavor of a great italian herb mixture…great with cheese or on their own!
Rosemary-one of my favorite herbs so I loved its intense flavor in these crackers
I will warn you, while I LOVED these crackers, they’re made from WHOLE flax seeds so be prepared for quite a few of them to get stuck in your teeth. 😉
The Seedsters were good as well! More crispy than the crackers and a little lighter. The flavors were more bold and these reminded me more of snack chip than a cracker. I also really liked the combination of chia and sunflower seeds with the flax…it made for awesome texture!
I never thought I was a huge fan of flax, but after making my way through these snacks, I have grown to love it’s distinct nutty flavor and chewy texture.
What are your favorite snacks?
