But my all time favorite?
Chips and dip.
No I’m not talking about chips & salsa, chips & french onion dip, chips & bean dip, or chips and artichoke dip. The dip that has my heart (and my stomach!) is GUAC. Good ol’…Guacamole.
Simple. Creamy. Flavorful.
And let’s not forget…DELICIOUS.
Luckily, my mom introduced me to the goodness of avocados when I was very little. So needless to say, I’ve been a fan for many years now. But I know for some people, the odd-looking, green-fleshed fruit can be a little intimidating. That’s where guacamole comes in.
No one…and I mean NO ONE, can resist the deliciousness of freshly made guac and crispy, crunchy tortilla chips. And although I may be a little biased, my mom’s is the BEST I’ve ever had. Move over, Chipotle. Step aside, table-side guacamole makers. My mom has you beat!
I am so excited to finally be sharing her secret recipe on the blog….with a fun twist of course!
In addition to all the flavorful, fresh my mom already uses in her recipe, I decided to throw in a secret veggie ingredient to amp up the fiber and lower the overall fat content. Plus, you can’t taste it and it doesn’t change the texture at all!
Can you guess what it is?
Mom’s Homemade Guac with Hidden Veggies
- Prep Time: 5 mins
- Total Time: 5 mins
- Yield: 6 servings
- Category: Savory Snacks
- 4 ripe avocados
- 2 tbsp lime juice
- 1 cup frozen peas, thawed
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tsp hot sauce
- ¼ cup red onion, chopped
- ½ cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
- Place avocados, lime juice, peas, salt, and pepper in a food processor and blend until smooth. Place avocado mixture in a large mixing bowl and stir in red onion & cilantro. Serve with tortilla chips or veggies and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
If you guessed peas, then, as you can see from the recipe above, you’d be correct! The peas make the guacamole even more beautifully green, while adding some great nutrition as well.
Pair this homemade guac with your favorite tortilla chips or even some raw veggies for dipping. It makes for a great game-watching snack or a fun appetizer before dinner.
