Now on to some other things…
If you saw my tweet yesterday…
then you were probably wondering what came of those X-rays! Well sorry to leave ya hanging everyone! The results of the X-rays and the whole doctors appointment in general gave me some very mixed emotions. Let me explain…
The good news is that the X-rays were totally normal…so NO STRESS FRACTURE! YAY! That made me so happy because I was fearing the worst with the amount of pain I’ve been in. But luckily everything turned out better than I anticipated. That being said…the news I did get didn’t really reassure me either. The PA who saw me basically said I have a severe case of tendonitis. Really!?! I did NOT think tendonitis caused this much pain.
The next thing he said bothered me even more. He told me to take some time off from running and it should start to feel better. I was like “Uhhh…I have taken off TWO weeks from running with NO improvement! What’s the deal with that!?”. He was surprised that it hadn’t improved at all and proceeded to tell me that I might just have to deal with this forever.
Greaaaaaat. Not the news I wanted to hear. So after tons of thinking last night, frustration during the day today, and contemplating what I should do….I did something a little drastic.
I had no plans to do so…but today the pain was a little more manageable and after my elliptical sesh I was feeling a little….daring? I think it was mostly out of frustration (and thinking about being stuck doing the elliptical for the REST of my life<-a little dramatic I know.). But I basically made a hasty decision and thought “well I am gonna have to live with this pain forever so might as well get used to it”. So I hopped on the treadmill, started off slow, and ran a mile and a half.
I have to admit it hurt pretty bad when I first started…I thought about getting off but I kind of wanted to test the waters and see how my body would react. Probably not the smartest idea, but at the time I was to upset to think properly.
5 minutes went by…then ten and I noticed that the pain seemed to be subsiding a bit….almost like my shin was loosening up. Weird huh?
So after that mile and a half (ran it in 13 minutes)…I got off the treadmill and believe it or not, my shin felt better than when I had originally gotten to the gym. It was as if it was WAY less tight and the pain wasn’t nearly as severe.
At this point I don’t know what to think!! Do I hold off on running and hope that the tendonitis subsides (I mean the doctor pretty much said its not gonna go away!!)? Or do I just go back to normal routine and learn to deal with the pain?
HELP! Does anybody have any incite on tendonitis in the shins!? Does it ever go away!? Ugh! I wish the PA had been more helpful with things I could do to speed the healing process. But instead I wasted 35 bucks for him to tell me to ice and take Motrin. Yeaaaah…thanks. I would have NEVER thought of that on my own!
So now I am basically a bucket of confusion.
I really don’t know what I should do! So any advice you guys could give me would be SO helpful!
Sorry for being so wordy! I just had a lot to share! Come back tomorrow for a fun What I Ate Wednesday post!! Recipes too!!
