[true life: I know this is how we all feel on Monday’s]
That seemed more fitting than HAPPY MONDAY! WOOO HOO! Because let’s be honest, I know how you all feel about Monday’s.
With that said, I have lots of AP Human Geography homework and college apps to fill out! So tonight I am lending the blog over to Mariel!! An awesome blogger with a great story!

My name is Mariel (but I’m called Em for short) and I’m 16! Nice to meet you! 🙂

I joined the blog realm last March. My grandmother passed away, and I was struggling in MAJOR ways. Many people have many different reasons for blogging about their lives online (haha) but for me… it just hit me…
I’m not the average teenager.
Most teens don’t care about health. Most teens don’t care what they put in their mouth. Most kids drink highly caffeinated drinks and don’t care what preservatives and chemicals do to them.
But what about me? Where did I fit into all of this?
A little bit about my past:
Honestly, I’ve always been a health freak. But I DIDN’T always eat healthy foods. I didn’t know what foods were better than others,really, until the summer before last. (When I was fifteen.)
The only reason I decided to invest so much time in figuring out was healthy… was because of one thing…
I was unhealthy myself.
I started having stomach issues that affected my daily life. Many times I would cry at school-when no one saw me-because my stomach hurt so much. I didn’t know the answer- and I felt like I was eating the most healthy diet ever! I ate mostly and exclusively raw.vegan.foods. But I STILL had problems! I thought something was wrong with me…and I struggled with ED thoughts and behaviors.
I have come to realize that nothing was ‘wrong’ with me. I just had poor health and I didn’t know what was causing it. And you know what? My journey of finding out what was wrong with me has helped me know more than many people know in a LIFETIME about health and wellness—all in just one year. Sounds crazy right? But sometimes your sickness-can be your secret weapon.
If you are ever struggling with something that is so hard and at times you feel like giving up…try learning from it. If you have a health problem that is constantly bothering you… do the research. I know not your average teenager would do this… but I did. I have learned so much about myself and I ever could have before and I have grown so much as a person from it. I have not overcome my problems all the way yet; but I KNOW I am recovering and getting better. The best feeling in the world is when you do something you KNOW is working for you!
So sometimes being not your average teenager can be a gift. And a blessing.
Don’t let people bring you down:
If you are the not your average teen people will try to bring you down because they just don’t understand. Remember this- its their problem-not yours. Think of it this way…why should they be upset at you knowing so much and caring for yourself? They probably feel ‘guilty’ they aren’t doing the same thing and don’t want to feel like they aren’t as ‘good.’
Enjoy every moment you are living in…and express love to others in every way possible. Don’t think you are a failure just because you haven’t reached a particular goal. Tell yourself that you are always okay,right now,just the way you are. Life is a journey, and if you are always waiting for the next thing to help you ‘get there’ you will never truly be happy inside.
Two amazing books I have read that not your average teen would read:
–Intuitive Eating>relationship with food help. GREAT FOR THE Eating disordered MIND! J
–The Healing Codes by Dr.Alex Lloyd>seriously is a must-read. I can’t really explain it.
–Body Ecology Diet by Donna Gates>taught me SO MUCH about my tummy problems and where they are coming from! MUST READ if you suffer from bad health. Especially stomach and digestion problems!
I’ve read SO MANY books on my path to healing…and these three led me straight to the answer.
If even you are not the average teenager (which if you are a blogger,chances are you aren’t!) then accept it and realize IT IS OKAY. It is a good thing and can teach you valuable lessons in life. Embrace it! Don’t ever give up the chase of the answers you might be searching for in life.
If you just sit still and listen and be patient, they are always there for you.

Lovely post Em!! I can definitely relate! Not many teens in my community are into healthy living like I am so it can be hard to find people who can relate to my lifestyle! But that’s why I am so involved in the blog world! All of you give me an outlet to just be myself, and I love how even though I haven’t met most of you I feel like I really KNOW you! And I feel like you really get me too! I love that!
