Best Legs! Best Hair! Most Likely to Make a Million! Teacher’s Pet! Biggest Flirt! Least Changed Since Freshman Year!
That’s right folks. The superlatives are happening. Today the Senior poll for the yearbook went around. Ya know the one that has been in yearbooks from the beginning of time….voting for your fellow classmates for various “titles”. For many this may seem like a fun thing….but for someone like me who is apparently a “shoe in” for Teacher’s Pet, it can be pretty frustrating.
Sure I do my work and get good grades. But there is so much more to me than that and I feel like these stupid polls focus so much on shallow attributes and appearance!
Seeing everyone running around, frantically asking for votes is kind of….sickening to say the least. I mean seriously, we are going to college next year and from there are going to be starting our career’s, starting families, and starting our LIVES! Who is really gonna care that you were voted Best Dressed in high school when you’re interviewing for a job?
No one you say? Yeah I think you’d be right.
And what about celebrating all the other more important aspects of people! I would rather be known for being a good friends, an honest person, or a dependable classmate rather than the superficial titles that are usually awarded. Plus, there is so much people don’t know about me! My dedication to school is such a small aspect of who I am as a person and I wish people could learn to judge me for who I am rather than what I do in that one environment.
So today, I want to celebrate quirks. Everyone’s got them. Little things that other people may not know or may never even notice about you. Things that make you YOU! Not based on your appearance or other peoples preconceptions.
Just fun stuff that people might not know from just looking at you!
Here are a few of my random quirks!
-I take my love of the number 6 a little to far.
Let me explain. I always have to end whatever I’m doing with a number that ends in a 6. So today for example, instead of doing 15 minutes on the elliptical, I ended at 16. Weird right? But it’s my fave number and I never feel done unless I end on a 6! Also its been my number for everything since I was a baby! 6 for softball, 6 for soccer, 6 EVERYTHING! Its ma number, yo!
-I hate being labeled as uptight/rigid just because I like to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Matt wrote a great post that made me think about this today. “Live a little” “SPLURGE!”….all frequent comments I get in reference to my diet and fitness habits. But frankly I feel like I’m LIVING A LOT! Definitely more than the people who are sluggish from stuffing their faces with fried food and sitting on the couch for hours on end. Living healthy has never felt like a sacrifice to me….its simply what I LOVE! I don’t feel like I am deprived or missing out on anything…in fact I feel lucky that I love all the foods and activities that I do!
-I can’t sleep without my heating blanket on.
It doesn’t matter if the hottest day of the Summer. Something about climbing in to a warm bed is just so comforting.
-I say egg like AYgg.
People always make fun of me for that! But its just the way I grew up saying it! Saying egg like “leg” sounds so awkward to me.
-I don’t drink and I don’t do drugs.
Nor do I have any interest to. Drug and alcohol use is rampant in my school. My love for health and taking care of my body has just made those two substances complete turn offs to me. I just can’t justify putting something in my body that has no benefit and actually causes more harm than good. (No judgment on anyone who drinks….its just not for me!)
-I hold my breath when someone sneezes.
[I’d rather not breath that in.]
I think this came from my mom. When I was little she told me that the particles from a sneeze can hang in the air for four hours after they are sneezed. Something our breathing in someone else’s sneeze just doesn’t appeal to me. LOL! So when I pass someone in the hall that sneezes, I hold my breath when I walk by
-I have a weird obsession with Remember the Titans!
Such a random movie right?! And it’s not even that its my favorite! But there is just something about it and I never get sick of it for some reason. Whenever its on I watch it!
-Smacking gum is like nails on a chalk board to me.
[I am with ya buddy!]
I cringe whenever I hear someone really chowin’ down on their piece of gum!
-I stick my tongue out when ever I am concentrating.
Can’t even believe I am putting this pic on the blog…..
[eyes closed, tongue out…mighty embarrassing LOL]
Whether I am running a race, throwing a softball, or taking a test, my tongue is always out flapping away! It makes for some great pictures. FALSE. Haha! My parents have SO many pictures of me with my tongues just chillin’ outside of my mouth.
-When I eat something that’s in a bowl, I always work from the outside in.
I don’t know why with this one, just always have. Oatmeal, smoothies, soup….it goes for them all.
-I CANNOT sleep on anything but my stomach.
I always try to lay on my back (apparently it’s the best for your body), but I just can’t do it! Which is odd because I am a GOOD sleeper….I can literally fall asleep anywhere, in any environment….as long as I’m on my stomach of course
Haha well I guess these were a little more random than I thought! And these were just the quirks that I could think of at the moment…I am sure know I have a TON more!
So now its your turn!
Celebrate your quirky side!!! Tell me something about you that no one else really knows…or at least wouldn’t be able to tell about you just from looking!
I will pick some to share in my next post!
Goodnight friends! Thank you for accepting me for who I am and taking the time to get to know me for ME instead of just making assumptions
