(note: this first half of the post is pretty heavy on the running talk and discusses something kind of awkward…..so if you wanna see some yummy food skip to the bottom!!!)
I know all my runner friends out there know what I’m talking about……the big elephant in the room….well BATHroom that is. That uncomfortable, unnerving feeling you get spontaneously while running. It just hits you….and you know you need to GO!
People don’t usually talk about this cause its kind of a *messy* subject but I needed to bring it up! Partially because its been happening to me a lot lately and partially to ask y’all about your own experiences with this “issue”.
I know it must just come from the motion of our legs while running, but what I can’t figure out is how to prevent it! If you follow me on Daily Mile, you know how I’ve had to deal with this on my past few runs and have actually had to stop for bathroom breaks in order to finish the run.
I always am shocked when “it” happens because I never run less than hour after eating and make sure to eat a less fibrous snack/meal before I go. But still its been happening!
Here’s some info I found online:
“Gastrointestinal disturbance is very common among runners, and while the researchers aren’t sure exactly why that is they all agree it’s a common ailment. Probably something to do with your increased metabolism, blood not flowing through the intestines as it is diverted throughout the rest of your body, and just the general shaking of your internal organs as you run.”
Makes sense….but how do we stop it!!!
So here’s my question for all my running guru’s out there…..how do you deal with bathroom issues while on a run? Any foods you avoid or eat before a run to help this? Any other advice worth sharing?
Please comment in the comment section to share your advice with others……cause I am pretty sure others have these same questions but might not wanna bring it up for obvious reasons
OKay enough toilet talk!!!! On to some foooood!!! <awkward segue there…..ooops.
I came home today and celebrated not having any homework (yes, we’ve still had homework for the past few weeks even though tomorrow is the LAST DAY!), by baking!
I certainly am scuffin obsessed because the variations just keep pouring out of me! I think I need to do a scuffin love post ASAP! There are SO many flavors now! Here’s my latest creation:
Pineapple Carrot Cake Tops
makes 10 tops
2/3 cup pineapple chunks, unpacked
1/2 cup 100% pineapple juice
1 large carrot or 2 small carrots shredded
1 banana, mashed
1 1/4 cup flour (I used Spelt)
1 tsp vanilla
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup agave nectar
1/4 cup coconut(optional)
1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 375*. Place juice and pineapple chunks in a food processor or mini blender and blend until mostly liquid. Mix all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Place 10 3 tbsp servings plops (for lack of a better word ) of batter on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and smooth down a bit so the muffin tops are similar in size and shape.
Bake for 18 minutes! Let cool and refrigerate for best taste!
Perfect for Summer.
Dinner was also amazingly delicious tonight! The featured component was this roasted veggie panini I made.
(leftover roasted veggies mixed with tomato sauce, salsa, fresh basil, and tons of nutritional yeast….so simple, but absolutely delish all grilled up!)
Suuuriously foodgasmic. I wanted like ten more of these.
Wish me luck on my last day tomorrow!!! SUMMER IS SO CLOSE!
Q of the day:
What do you all think about me doing some more ‘TMI’ posts like this? You guys could send in topics or questions that you feel uncomfortable discussing on your own but still have questions about and I could open them up on here for discussion! I could call it TMI Tuesdays or something!
Anyone interested? Hit me up: firstname.lastname@example.org
Hope your Monday was marvelous!
