This past weekend was absolutely wonderful. Not only was the weather perfect (hello 90 degree weather in BUFFALO! ), but it was the first weekend that really felt like Summer.
Even though I have one more exam, I am really starting to enjoy the freeing up of my schedule and the slower pace of life right now. It feels good to be free of the stress and pressure of assignments and deadlines and just sort of chill for a bit.
On Sunday I took part in one of my favorite activities…volunteering.
During the school year volunteering outside of what I did for Student Council and the community fundraising club I ran, I didn’t really have time for my own volunteer endeavors. Well now that’s its Summer I can finally get back to…GIVING BACK!
My mom and I signed up to help out at the WNY United’s biggest fundraiser of the year…a family fun day event during one of the Bison’s game (our minor league baseball team) downtown.
The WNY United group raises funds to help educate young people on the dangers of drug use and to help those affected by addiction.
Having had a family member die from an overdose, this cause is definitely near to my heart. It was really fun (and rewarding!) being able to help out a bit with the festivities! Here are some pics from the day:
[SpongeBob made an appearance for the kiddies]
My mom and I were in charge of checking people in so their was a lot of interacting with the public! Talking to people=my favorite.
It was great being outside the whole day and even better seeing how much fun everyone was having. Watching the game was fun too!
Thanks for all the comments on my Cocoa Mint bars! They really are delicious so I hope you enjoy them as much as me!
A few of you asked whether the protein powder was necessary….it can probably be subbed for extra bran, but be warned I haven’t experimented with that option yet so I can’t guarantee the results!
So what’s in store for the rest of the week you ask?
On tap for this week:
-a Q and A sesh (lots of formspring questions in my inbox right now!)
-a delicious recipe for WIAW
-more kitchen experiments!
Oh and one more bit of exciting news before I go! I just got my registration confirmed for Expo East in the Fall! If you don’t know what Expo East is…its pretty much a health food lover’s dream!
It’s the largest natural products expo in the country and features all the newest products from EVERY company you can think of! This year its being held in Baltimore and I seriously cannot wait to go. Please let me know if you are attending because I would love to meet up with some friends while I am down there.
Also, if you are Baltimore based…would you consider letting me crash with you for the weekend? I know that’s asking a lot of someone I don’t technically “know”….but hey, I’m gonna be a broke college student at that point and need to be as frugal as possible
Talk you all tomorrow!
PS: The Q and A post will be later this week…so if you have any questions get them in now!
