I was recently given the opportunity through my ambassadorship with FitFluential to talk about the workout regiment that the cast of the new movie, Man of Steel™, were put through by Mark Twight, a top Hollywood fitness trainer, to get into fighting shape for the intense physical scenes in the film! Being part of the Man of Steel™ film crew, Mark was also able to partner up with the National Guard to put actual soldiers through the paces! National Guard soldiers…and really soldiers from any branch of the military, need to be in top shape to perform their duties, so Mark’s workout’s were tailored to not only fit the needs of the film but of real life heroes as well! Check out the video below to get a taste of what the fitness regime that Mark put together looked like!
If you go to the SoldierofSteel.com website you can see the actual workout plans that Mark created, download a one month training plan, and learn more about Mark’s role on the movie set! Kind of cool to be able to get tips and routines from a celebrity trainer for free!
You even have the chance to talk to Mark directly when he answers questions on June 20th through a Twitter chat! Follow @nationalguard and use the hashtag #TwightTakeover from 3-4 pm this Thursday to get all your fitness questions answered! I’m sure he has some cool perspective on training actors and actresses for different movie roles as well! Lord knows he did a good job of getting Henry Cavill into fighting shape! Ow ow….
One thing I love about being offered these posting topics is that it reminds me to address things that I’ve been forgetting to mention lately on the blog! As I’ve said in my past few posts, while I was away in the Philippines I hardly did any legitimate workouts. I went into the trip kind of knowing that this would be the case and I decided that it would be an opportunity to rest my body and reccoop before diving back into my summer fitness routine! Once I was actually in the Philippines I realized that it would have been hard to workout even if I tried! Not only does the heat and humidity hinder your ability to workout outside, but there is very limited access to gyms and people there aren’t as concerned/interested in ‘working out’ as people in the US are. Plus my days were pretty much packed from morning till night with studying and immersion excursions (hehe that rhymes!). So although it was hard to go without something I love for a few weeks…I didn’t die and I just told myself that it would make getting back into shape that much more fun!
I was right about the fact that being without exercise for 3 weeks made miss it and crave it more than usual…but I think I slightly underestimated how quickly you can lose your ‘fitness’ level if you take sometime off. Heading back to the gym and getting back into my normal routine this past week has been HARD. Not on the motivation end (I truly love moving my body!), but more on the endurance and strength end! Simple routines and moves that I had worked up to before my trip now feel incredibly challenging and I find I am fatigued/out of breath MUCH quicker than usual! Plus my heart rate sky rockets a lot faster than normal.
[totally me after the elliptical last week]
I could choose to view this as a pain in the ass or get myself down about not being at the fitness level I’m used to, but instead I am trying to get some enjoyment out of it! When I think about it, I now have a lot more options for workouts right now because things that were ‘easy’ for me before now feel challenging again! So it’s like I have a lot more room to grow and push myself again.
Another good thing I have going on right now on the fitness front is my participation in my third round of Best Body Bootcamp!
I got hooked after taking part in round 4 earlier this year and kept up the enthusiasm during round 5 as well! When I heard Tina was creating a summer program with even more workouts and features than usual, I knew I had to take part! And the start date just happened to work perfectly with my trip!
The new round started today and I can already tell it will be the perfect program to get me back into shape. I love that it starts off easier and progressively gets harder as your strength and capabilities improve by going through the different workout phases.
So as it turns out, being a little out of shape is working towards my advantage because I’ll be able to easily see improvements over the course of the program!
I’ll definitely share more about my thoughts on this round of BBBC as I move through it. But I can say that even from the first workout I know I’ll love it! Tina’s mind is like a gold mine when it comes to coming up with new, unique workouts! She’s the queen of making fitness fun and preventing boredom….gotta keep switching things up!
To kick off the program I went on my first outdoor run since being home…
A bit slower than I’m used to, but I was SO happy with how my body felt! Not overly tired or exerted and I truly enjoyed every moment of my run. Great way to get out and see parts of the neighborhood I hadn’t seen in a few weeks too!
Do you miss exercise when you’re away from it for awhile? I am just such a naturally active person and have a lot of nervous energy so not being able to expend it definitely takes a toll on my body after a while! My sleep begins to suffer, I get moody, and headaches become a daily occurrence. Luckily I am finally starting to feel back to normal again!
What’s your go to exercise/workout schedule to get back into shape? I like to just take things slow and go with a toned down/modified version of my normal workouts!
Do you think you’ll go see the new Man of Steel™ movie? Probably at some point…gotta go see the big summer block busters ya know?!
