There really is no other reason for the title other than the fact that I have an awesome Protein Bun recipe to share with you all today (actually it’s one recipe with FOUR variations!) and the word buns reminded me of something my friends and I used to say when we were younger. If something was weird or just plain ‘wroooong’ we would say “that’s buns” or “that is so buns”. Do not ask me why! We were just weird little kids who came up with some stupid phrases haha! Kids will be kids!
Anyways, moving on to more important, more delicious things.
4 in 1 Protein Buns
Basic single serve recipe:
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tbsp egg white protein powder
- 1 tbsp flour of choice*
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp psyllium husk powder
- extra water and seasonings/spices to taste
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Whisk egg white protein powder and water together. Add flour, baking powder, and psyllium husk and mix until evenly combined (add more water if batter is to sticky). Place batter in a circle on a parchment paper lined baking sheet or line a medium sized ramekin with parchment paper and pour in there. Bake for 10 minutes. Cool on a rack before eating!
*I’ve had success with spelt, garbanzo, coconut (you will need an extra 1/4 cup of water for this one!), corn meal, and millet flour! The garbanzo is my favorite so far! I tried chestnut flour and it doesn’t work at all so be careful with that one!
These buns are great cut in half for sandwiches, toasted with toppings, or in any other way you would use normal bread! Enjoy.
And now a few other things to share with you all…
-I am officially over the half way hump of my memory a day project! Yahoo! It was one of my ‘undeclared’ New Year’s resolutions to stick with a project I start and see it all the way through, and I think I’ll be able to accomplish that goal with this project! I’ve written down a positive memory everyday since January 1st of this year!
-I. LOVE. COUPONS. On a recent shopping trip I had a TON of coupons to use up. Look at all the stuff I was able to score for cheaper prices! NICE. Nothing feels better than seeing that total go down at the end of a shopping trip as the cashier scans all the coupons!
-The Today Show keeps talking about this phenomenon known as “Bitchy Face syndrome” and even though I know it’s technically not a real issue, I DEFINITELY know people who have this! Even in my own family! They just always look pissed or like they are giving you a dirty look if they aren’t engaged in conversation or doing something. It can be so confusing at time cause you don’t know whether they are really mad or not!
[they couldn’t say Bitchy on the air so they wrote “witchy instead!]
-Target got me again…but I did manage to score a product that inspired my protein bun recipe above! I got these little round baking containers that allow for easy removal of the baked good by opening up from around the side rather than have to pry them out yourself. I was pretty excited. And I got some shorts on sale too!
-Still no word on when I’ll be getting my computer back! But luckily I was able to get a loaner from my Uncle for a few days since I need a computer to go to work.
-Concerts in the parkway (AKA my front yard basically!) have officially started again! It’s definitely a sign of summer for me! Every Tuesday there is a free concert put on the parkways in front of my house and hundreds of people come out to picnic, listen to music, and get together as a community. It’s really fun and certainly something I look forward to every year!
-Guys…MY FAVORITE COMEDIAN TWEETED ME! This might not mean a lot to you all if you’re not familiar with Pete Holmes, but I pretty much have fallen in love with him (in the least stalkerish way possible) since I’ve listened to his podcast and I want to see him live SO BAD. Anyways, I tweet him all the time and today he tweeted me back! I shouldn’t be this excited over something so petty but I am indulging my inner fan girl just this once.
-I have potentially booked my first speaker for my fellowship to promote the Lend a {Healthy} Hand project this fall on my campus! I’m not gonna get into to many details yet until everything is for sure…but things are definitely headed in the right direction.
And last but not least…
-I was made aware of a new social experiment that Peet’s Coffee is doing to promote their newest single coffee cups! Although I’m not a big coffee drinker myself, I liked the idea behind Peet’s project and the approach the company to find a new way to market their products. Instead of just going the traditional route, Peet’s is on a mission to get their products to the people by having sampling events all over the country! But here’s where we all come in. By going to their site we can vote on different things that we care about (or in Peet’s speak “give a cup about”), and depending on the voting results, Peet’s will base their next sampling event around our choices. Kind of cool right?! So by letting your opinions be known, you could get a fun sampling event to come to your area!

In addition to the whole ‘social sampling experiment’, Peet’s is also encouraging people to really take into consideration the things we all really care about in life. And right now, I am really loving all of YOU! I’ve been getting some amazing feedback, thoughtful comments, and great interactions from the Healthy Helper community lately and I wanted to let you know how much I really appreciate it. I feel like I’ve hit this good groove with the blog and I want to ride this wave as long as possible! Thank you as always for making this possible.
Have a great day, friends! Make sure to let me know if you fill out the summer survey I created!

Todays’s Healthy Help: Gave my friend a pep talk who was feeling down and a bit anxious.
Never too early to start Lending a {Healthy} Hand for this weeks round-up! Tell me what you’ve done to help someone else lately!
I love when celebrities I love tweet me back. It’s totally awesome 🙂
Also love the idea of that concert series. That definitely would start summer for me!
It really is fun when they tweet back! I feel silly for getting so excited but it’s kind of cool 🙂
The memory jar project! So I’m kind of psyched to see someone else who’s been keeping up with it 😀 I made the same goal on January 1st, and so far, so good. I honestly can’t wait to look back at them at the end of the year.
Oh yay! I am so happy you’re still doing it too! I feel the exact same way…cannot wait to open them all up and reflect on the year next january!
Protein, fiber… What more could you want in your buns! 😉
RIGHT?! Perfect balance!
Um…I’m going to come steal that grocery haul! Seriously alllll of my favorite things. Yum!
And those protein buns look delicious! What exactly does the psyllium husk do? I’ve never purchased any and am wondering if it would be worth investing in!
It thickens up things like a charm! All natural fiber!
