One of the trends I mentioned seeing at Expo East this year was ADDED PROTEIN. Everything from pancakes and drinks to pasta and chips! Adding protein to food products has become majorly popular in the health food world. Usually I am not one to hop on the latest food fad, but in this case, I’ve found I really LOVE a lot of the protein-boosted products out on the market.
It’s no secret that I love baking/cooking with protein. However, I also regularly enjoy mugcakes, pancake mixes, bars, nut butters, and snacks with added protein. I find having a little extra protein in my diet keeps me more satisfied and definitely helps with refueling and rebuilding muscles after a tough workout.
Recently, with so many of those types of products on the market it can be hard to search through them and figure out what you’d like to try. Luckily The Vitamin Shoppe has recently curated a specific section of their online store called the Protein Pantry. It’s solely dedicated to over 40 products with added protein. All the foods you’ve been wanting to try, all in one convenient place! I was sent a little sampling of the Protein Pantry line to try out!
Lots of new to me foods and a few I’m familiar with. Basically I was in nut butter and pancake heaven! (Can this be a real place?)

P28 High Protein White Chocolate Pancake Mix-The smell alone is enough to make me drool! Forget breakfast food, these pancakes could double as dessert. Love that they’re whole grain and made from high quality whey isolate.
P28 High Protein White Chocolate Spread-Simple ingredients for being so full of flavor and dessert like! I felt like I was eating healthy frosting when I tasted this.
Buff Bake White Chocolate Peanut Butter-All I can say is WOW. They nailed the white chocolate flavor and it pairs so well with PB!
Buff Bake Snickerdoodle Almond Butter-Legit tastes like creamy, rich snickerdoodle cookie dough batter!
D’s Natural Vanilla Maple Almond Fluff Butter-When they say FLUFF they mean it! So creamy, smooth, sweet, and, well, FLUFFY. Definitely a thick, delish nut butter!
FlapJacked Probiotic Double Chocolate and Apple Cinnamon Mighty Muffins-Microwave muffins don’t get any more decadent! I like to actually undercook mine a bit so they have a nice, gooey center…lava cake, anyone?
Single Serve About Time Chocolate Chip and Cinnamon Spice Protein Pancake Mix-I’ve been a fan of About Time for years, but this was my first time trying their protein pancake mix! It did not disappoint. Dense, hearty pancakes with the perfect amount of sweetness.
Mancakes Maple High Fiber Syrup-Tasted like real maple syrup and I was surprised at how THICK it was…especially after being warmed up!
I couldn’t decide what I wanted to try first so I thought I’d make a recipe using a few of the different products. The P28 White Chocolate Protein Pancake Mix and the Buff Bake White Chocolate Peanut Butter especially caught my eye!
I didn’t want to go down the traditional route of making pancakes and then topping them with nut butter, so I got a little more inventive. I ended up with a delicious, sweet protein snack!
BEHOLD….White Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Bites!
Truffle-like energy bites that are perfect for on-the-go snacking, mid-workout fueling, or even a healthy dessert when you feel like ending a meal with a little something sweet. 🙂
White Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Bites

Ingredients (16 bites)
- ½ cup P28 White Chocolate Protein Pancake Mix
- ⅓ cup unflavored whey protein powder
- ½ cup Buff Bake White Chocolate Peanut Butter
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ cup non-dairy milk
- ¼ cup crushed walnuts
- Optional mix ins (add 2-3 tbsp of one): granola, coconut shreds, more white chocolate chips, dried cranberries, or mini dark chocolate chips
Add in all ingredients to a large bowl. Add your other add ins. Mix well (use hands) then roll into bite size balls. Freeze for at least one hour. Coat bites (once frozen) with extra protein pancake mix if desired (alternatively use cocoa powder or peanut flour).
Makes about 16 balls. Freeze or keep in refrigerator to maintain freshness.
They look like doughnut holes, they taste like white chocolate heaven, and soft & creamy like raw cookie dough. Seriously, it doesn’t get any better. Plus, they come together in five minutes flat! And there are so many possibilities for variations depending on your taste preferences.
My family and I DEVOURED these. My uncle was especially in love! Granted he didn’t know what any of the cool ingredients were…but living with us he’ll be exposed to a ton of new, fun health food products! 😉
These are perfect when you want a light, sweet treat after dinner or even for refueling after a tough workout because of their high protein content! They also have no added sugar or sweeteners except for what’s already in the pancake mix and nut butter.
