I’m a reflection of my community.
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately. Maybe it’s because I’ve just graduated or maybe because I am finally starting to see the path my life is going to take. I’ve been doing some reflecting on everything…and everyone…that’s gotten to me this point, and I really feel very grateful.
I’ve had so much support over the years through numerous triumphs and tribulations. I honestly feel undeserving of the amazing family and friends that I have.
They’ve held hope for me when I couldn’t hold it for myself, saw brighter days when I couldn’t yet see the light, and constantly believed in my potential to overcome the odds. I don’t think words can adequately convey how thankful I am to so many amazing people, but today I wanted to focus on a few special ladies in my life that have really made a difference.
As a woman myself, having the support and connection with other woman, whether they’re family members or friends, is so important. They can relate to me, have gone through similar experiences, and know me better than anyone else.
The saying goes “no (wo)man can survive without community“…and I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment.
As humans we thrive on communication, connections, and being able to be vulnerable with others. Today I want to celebrate a few special ladies that I consider my ‘wing women’.
Sure you’ve heard of wing men…but to me Wing WOmen are even more important! Especially in my life. To me a Wing Woman is someone who swoops in to save me from difficult situations and embarrassing moments. She provides helpful life advice and insights that I can’t see myself. I truly believe every woman has a Wing Woman in her life, no matter it’s her mother, sister, friend or a public figure. In fact, I’m lucky enough to have a few. I’d like to introduce you to them…
Where do I ever begin… I’ve called her my angel before and that title still fits. My mom IS my guardian angel. The way she sacrifices for my family and especially me on a daily basis is incredible. It’s unbelievable that someone has the capacity to love, help, and care that she does. That’s probably what makes her such an amazing nurse!
Lucky for the rest of us, she’s a caretaker in EVERY aspect of her life. She puts others before herself any chance she gets and is always looking for ways to lend a helping hand, serve the community, and make other people’s lives just a little bit easier.
She is known for taking the burden off of others and shouldering it herself even though she has her own obstacles to deal with. That’s just how incredibly strong and determined to serve she is.
Aside from her amazing giving qualities, my mom is also incredibly light-hearted and fun. She’s my best bud! I love all the time I spend with her and am so thankful that I’ve gotten some of the incredible aspects of her personality. She’s sweet, courageous, thoughtful, and exceedingly smart. My mom is always surprising me with new ideas I never knew she had.
I trust her more than anyone. I look to her more than anyone for advice. I am confident she would do ANYTHING for me at any time. Having that type of person in my life is invaluable.
My sister Melissa is one of my greatest role models. She’s been so successful in her life and has achieved everything she’s ever set out to do. I love seeing her thrive in new and challenging environments. Melissa serves as the greatest example of the life I want to lead someday. She’s kind, caring, sensitive, and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS willing to be there for me whenever I need support…even when I have trouble opening up to her. Just the fact that I know she’s always there for means more to me than she could ever know. Even if (and I know I don’t!) show it enough!
I love her. I love the family she’s creating. I love that she’s sees the good in me and is able to look past my flaws. My sister is my kindred spirit. We have a bond deeper than either of us knows and I can’t wait to explore it more as we continue to grow as people together.
You may have thought I only have one sister. But it turns out I have two! One is by blood and the other I consider ‘chosen’ family. That would be my best friend, Lindsey. Lindsey and I met during one of the most trying times in my life. Even though she’s experienced her own difficulties and numerous frustrations with me, she’s never abandoned or stopped loving me. In fact, she’s showed more compassion and understanding than I can say for some of my own family members. The number one thing that I appreciate about her is that she doesn’t baby me. She doesn’t take my crap, my “I can’ts” or my irrational thoughts. In fact, she’s always there to give me a kick in the butt when I really need it. Lindsey is a light in my life. She exemplifies what it means to be a Wing Woman and she always has my best interest in mind.
But she not only has MY best interest in mind, she looks out for everyone around her as well. Whether it’s in her nursing job or caring for people she’s connected with online, she never stops giving, encouraging, and inspiring. I am so lucky to have her in my life and to know such a beautiful and powerful soul. She’s a warrior if I ever saw one.
With Georgie and Christina at the helm, the BGB community has quickly become my most valued blogger community. In fact, it’s more than just that. This group of inspiring, hardworking, classy, kindhearted girl bosses has become my tribe.
They are willing to help without even being asked, always up for offering insight, and are helping me accomplish goals I didn’t think were even possible.
Not only is the BGB community a great blogging resource, everyone in the group is a great LIFE resource. Everyone is at different stages in their life and different paths, yet we’re all so similar in so many ways and have so much to offer each other.
I’ve made such amazing friends during my time in the community and I truly don’t know what I would do without them.
I cherish these lovely ladies in my life. They’ve made more of an impact on me than they know and they’ve been integral to getting me where I am today. I am not perfect by any means and still have a long way to go to get through my own setbacks. However, with these people in my camp, I know I’ll be able to accomplish all I want in life.
To pull a quote from one of my favorite books (Into the Wild)…
“Happiness is only real when shared.”
These women bring me endless happiness and constantly go above and beyond what it means to be a ‘Wing Woman’.
